Boron Constituents in Low-boron Steel
Nature, 1963IT has been demonstrated by autoradiography that, in steel and related alloys containing boron, this element sometimes segregates to grain boundaries of the matrix. This has to be taken into account when considering the damaging effect of neutron irradiation, boron-10 capturing neutrons and emitting lithium and helium.

Boronizing of high-alloy steels
Metal Science and Heat Treatment of Metals, 19611. The possibility of gas boronizing of high-alloy steels, including austenitic steels has been demonstrated. 2. It is shown that, during boronizing of high-alloy steels, a two-phase layer is produced in the early stages at the treatment temperature: a saturated solid solution (borides) followed by formation of a solid boride layer.

The increase in wear resistance is in both cases attributable to the materials deposited on the surface. In methods of Type (a) the base material is participating only to the extent that it must form a sufficiently firm bond with the wearresistant layer. An example of this type of method is the flame-spraying of hard materials. For Type (b) methods the

Characterization of Fe2B layers on ASTM A1011 steel and modeling of boron diffusion
Materials Testing, 2022In this work, the ASTM A1011 steel substrate has been pack-boronized in the interval of 1123–1273 K for 2–8 h. With the used powders mixture (33.5 wt.% B4C, 5.4 wt.% KBF4 and 61.1 wt.% SiC), the iron boride layers were formed on this steel. The boronized

Autoradiographic study on boronized steel
Materials Science and Engineering, 1983Abstract In the present work, boronized AISI-SAE 1042 steel has been studied by α autoradiography. These results were further supported by optical metallography, hardness measurements and X-ray micro-analysis of cross sections of the borided samples.

Mechanical properties of boronized AISI W4 steel
Surface and Coatings Technology, 2002Abstract A series of experiments was performed to evaluate some mechanical properties of boronized AISI W4 steel. Boronizing was carried out in a solid medium consisting of EKabor powders at 850, 950 and 1050°C for 2, 4, 6 and 8 h. After boronizing, FeB and Fe 2 B phases were formed on the surface of the steel substrate.

PIII-nitriding of boron implantated stainless steel
Surface and Coatings Technology, 2001Abstract In this report we present results of nitrogen PIII into 50 keV boron implanted austenitic stainless steel at 400°C and 40 kV. A surface layer of 90 nm consisting of expanded austenite (γN1 — lattice expansion 6.5%) and ferrite as well as containing 30 at.% B was found. This layer was followed by another one containing expanded austenite with
