Evolution of elemental depth profiles on co-deposited layers at the divertor region of the WEST tokamak during its Phase 1 operations

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy
We discuss detailed elemental, compositional, and structural properties of co-deposited layers formed on the special marker tiles at the divertor region of the WEST tokamak during its Phase 1 (2016–2021) plasma operations.

Engineering Strategies for Stable and Long‐Life Alkaline Zinc‐Based Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Alkaline zinc‐based flow batteries face persistent challenges from unstable zinc deposition, including dendrite growth, passivation, corrosion, and hydrogen evolution, which severely limit cycling stability. Current research addresses these issues through coordinated electrode structuring, electrolyte regulation, and membrane design to control zinc ...

Single‐ and Dual‐Atom Configurations in Atomically Dispersed Catalysts for Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐atom and dual‐atom‐based atomically dispersed catalysts (ADCs) effectively address the shuttle effect and sluggish redox kinetics in Li–S batteries. With nearly 100% atomic utilization and tunable coordination environments, ADCs enhance LiPSs adsorption, lower conversion barriers, and accelerate sulfur redox reactions.

Initial results of tests of depth markers as a surface diagnostic for fusion devices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The Accelerator-Based In Situ Materials Surveillance (AIMS) diagnostic was developed to perform in situ ion beam analysis (IBA) on Alcator C-Mod in August 2012 to study divertor surfaces between shots. These results were limited to studying low-Z surface

Toward Stable Multivalent Metal Batteries: Understanding the Interfacial Chemistry for Magnesium and Calcium Metal Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Interphase chemistry governs the stability of multivalent metal batteries. We summarize state‐of‐the‐art developments in calcium and magnesium metal batteries by focusing on the correlation among electrolytes, interphase layers, and the electrochemical performance of corresponding metal anodes.

The Role of Ultra‐Thin Buffer Layers for Achieving Ultra‐Low Dark Currents in Single‐Component Organic Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, SubNc single‐component organic photodiodes (SC‐OPDs) are investigated, which achieve highly competitive performance metrics, including high EQE, ultra‐low JD, and high specific detectivity (D*). This study emphasizes the critical role of an organic buffer layer in studying the interface energetics and effects to achieve state‐of‐the‐art ...
