Genetic variation in transmission success of the Lyme borreliosis pathogen Borrelia afzelii

open access: yesTicks and Tick-borne Diseases, 2015
The vector-to-host and host-to-vector transmission steps are the two critical events that define the life cycle of any vector-borne pathogen. We expect negative genetic correlations between these two transmission phenotypes, if parasite genotypes specialized at invading the vector are less effective at infecting the vertebrate host and vice versa.

First report of Coxiella burnetii and Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato in poultry red mites, Dermanyssus gallinae (Mesostigmata, Acari), related to urban outbreaks of dermatitis in Italy

open access: yesNew Microbes and New Infections, 2018
The poultry red mite (PRM), Dermanyssus gallinae, is a nonburrowing haematophagous nest-dwelling ectoparasite of birds; occasionally it bites humans, inducing dermatitis.

Infection of Ixodes ricinus (Acari: Ixodidae) by Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato in North Africa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Free-living adult Ixodes ricinus L. were collected in Amdoun, situated in the Kroumiry mountains in northwestern Tunisia (North Africa). Using direct fluorescence antibody assay, the infection rate of field-collected I.

Fipronil prevents transmission of Lyme disease spirochetes

open access: yesParasitology
Lyme disease, a tick-borne illness caused by Borrelia spirochetes, poses a significant threat to public health. While acaricides effectively control ticks on pets and livestock, their impact on pathogen transmission is often unclear.

Phenology of Ixodes ricinus and Infection with Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato Along a North- and South-Facing Altitudinal Gradient on Chaumont Mountain, Switzerland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Questing Ixodes ricinus L. ticks were collected monthly from 2003 to 2005 on the north- and south-facing slopes of Chaumont Mountain in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, at altitudes varying from 620 to 1,070 m. On the south-facing slope, questing tick density was
