Crystal Structure of Neurotropism-Associated Variable Surface Protein 1 (Vsp1) of Borrelia turicatae [PDF]
ABSTRACT Vsp surface lipoproteins are serotype-defining antigens of relapsing fever spirochetes that undergo multiphasic antigenic variation to allow bacterial persistence in spite of an immune response. Two isogenic serotypes of Borrelia turicatae strain Oz1 differ in their Vsp sequences and in disease ...

TICK-BORNE INFECTIOUS DISEASES WITH REFERENCE TO EGYPT [PDF]
Ticks are hematophagous ectoparasites of man, domestic and street animals, and birds of health and economic hazard worldwide. They transmit many micro-organisms and protozoan infectious diseases and their toxins cause different signs and symptoms that ...

A serological assay to detect and differentiate rodent exposure to soft tick and hard tick relapsing fever infections in the United States [PDF]
Human cases of relapsing fever (RF) in North America are caused primarily by Borrelia hermsii and Borrelia turicatae, which are spread by argasid (soft) ticks, and by Borrelia miyamotoi, which is transmitted by ixodid (hard) ticks. In some regions of the

Arthritis severity and spirochete burden are determined by serotype in the Borrelia turicatae-mouse model of Lyme disease [PDF]
Immunodeficient mice infected with Borrelia turicatae, a relapsing fever agent, have a disorder that resembles disseminated Lyme disease. Two serotypes, A and B, differed in their arthritogenicity in both CB-17 SCID and C3H SCID mice. In CB-17 SCID mice infected with serotype A or B, arthritis was assessed by measurement of tibiotarsal diameter ...

We developed a rapid, effective technique for surveying for Ornithodoros turicata, a vector of African swine fever virus using gopher tortoise burrows. When working under a time constraint during tick collection, vacuuming substrate from the top meter of the burrow followed by sifting for soft ticks outperformed CO2 traps.

Characterization of a Borrelia Miyamotoi Membrane Antigen (BmaA) for Serodiagnosis of Borrelia Miyamotoi Disease [PDF]
Borrelia miyamotoi is a tick-borne pathogen that causes Borrelia miyamotoi disease (BMD), an emerging infectious disease of increasing public health significance. B. miyamotoi is transmitted by the same tick vector (Ixodes spp.) as B.
