The karyotype of Bos indicus is identical with that of Bos taurus except for the morphology of the Y chromosome. The Y chromosome of B. taurus is a small metacentric, but that of B. indicus is a small acrocentric. Autoradiographs of DNA synthesis during the late S phase invariably show a late replicating small acrocentric.

Purebred and crossbred Bos indicus calves were infested 1, 2, or 3 times with 10 female and 5 male Amblyomma americanum. Resistance was acquired by both the purebred and the crossbred calves after 1 infestation and resulted in statistically significant decreases in the percentages of females that engorged, the mean weights of engorged females, and the ...

Brahman (n = 9) and 1/2 Simmental x 1/4 Brahman x 1/4 Hereford (n = 11) calves were utilized to determine the influence of exposure to cold on the physiology of the neonate. All calves were removed from their dams within 20 min of birth and prior to suckling.

Heterosis in Bos taurus × Bos indicus crosses
Livestock Production Science, 1985Abstract Data extracted from reports on Bos taurus × Bos indicus crossbreeding were used to estimate the amount of heterosis in these crosses. Traits studied were age at first calving, milk yield, lactation length, and calving interval. The estimates obtained were (percent of midparent means in parentheses): Age at first calving −3.2 to −4.4 ...

Reproduction in Domestic Animals, 2015
ContentsThe pregnancy rates obtained after the transfer of cryopreserved in vitro‐produced (IVP) embryos are usually low and/or inconsistent. The objective of this study was to evaluate the pregnancy rates of Holstein, Gyr and Holstein × Gyr cattle after the transfer of vitrified IVP embryos produced with X‐sorted sperm.

Synthesis of primary Bos taurus - Bos indicus chimaeric calves
Animal Reproduction Science, 1983Attempts to produce primary Bos taurus-Bos indicus chimaeric calves by aggregation and co-culture of zona-free morulae were unsuccessful. Consequently, the blastocyst injection technique was developed for ruminant embryos. Between one and six inner cell mass cells were injected into 24 blastocysts which were transferred to 14 cows.

The objectives of the present study were to evaluate the effects of scrotal insulation on sperm production, semen quality, and testicular echotexture in Bos indicus and Bos indicus x Bos taurus crossbred bulls. In one experiment, B. indicus bulls (n=12) were allocated to control and whole-scrotum insulation groups, while in a second experiment ...
