Evaluation of thermo-adaptability between Tharparkar (Bos indicus) and crossbred (Bos indicus X Bos taurus) calves in a controlled environment

Journal of Thermal Biology, 2022
The global warming driven climate change has increased the susceptibility of livestock around the globe to heat stress (HS), which reduces animal productivity and threatens the sustainability of marginal farmers. The objective of this investigation was to evaluate thermo-adaptability between Tharparkar calves (TC), an indigenous milch breed of India ...

Effect of early luteolysis in progesterone-based timed AI protocols in Bos indicus, Bos indicus×Bos taurus, and Bos taurus heifers

Theriogenology, 2008
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of treatment with an intravaginal progesterone-releasing device (CIDR) and estradiol benzoate (EB) on follicular dynamics in Bos indicus (n=23), Bos taurus (n=25), and cross-bred (n=23) heifers. To assess the influence of reduced serum progesterone concentrations during 8 days of treatment with a ...

Logistic regression analysis of pregnancy rate following transfer of Bos indicus embryos into Bos indicus × Bos taurus heifers

Theriogenology, 2007
Factors affecting pregnancy rate of 5627 Zebu embryos in crossbred females with unknown proportions of Holstein and Zebu breeding were examined. After evaluation for developmental stage, quality, and viability, embryos were immediately transferred to recipients.

Bos indicus (Zebu)

1968
The karyotype of Bos indicus is identical with that of Bos taurus except for the morphology of the Y chromosome. The Y chromosome of B. taurus is a small metacentric, but that of B. indicus is a small acrocentric. Autoradiographs of DNA synthesis during the late S phase invariably show a late replicating small acrocentric.

Acquisition and Expression of Resistance by Bos indicus and Bos indicus x Bos taurus Calves to Amblyomma americanum Infestation

The Journal of Parasitology, 1985
Purebred and crossbred Bos indicus calves were infested 1, 2, or 3 times with 10 female and 5 male Amblyomma americanum. Resistance was acquired by both the purebred and the crossbred calves after 1 infestation and resulted in statistically significant decreases in the percentages of females that engorged, the mean weights of engorged females, and the ...

Physiological responses of newborn Bos indicus and Bos indicus x Bos taurus calves after exposure to cold.

Journal of Animal Science, 1991
Brahman (n = 9) and 1/2 Simmental x 1/4 Brahman x 1/4 Hereford (n = 11) calves were utilized to determine the influence of exposure to cold on the physiology of the neonate. All calves were removed from their dams within 20 min of birth and prior to suckling.

Heterosis in Bos taurus × Bos indicus crosses

Livestock Production Science, 1985
Abstract Data extracted from reports on Bos taurus × Bos indicus crossbreeding were used to estimate the amount of heterosis in these crosses. Traits studied were age at first calving, milk yield, lactation length, and calving interval. The estimates obtained were (percent of midparent means in parentheses): Age at first calving −3.2 to −4.4 ...

Pregnancy Rates to Fixed Embryo Transfer of Vitrified IVP Bos indicus, Bos taurus or Bos indicus × Bos taurus Embryos

Reproduction in Domestic Animals, 2015
ContentsThe pregnancy rates obtained after the transfer of cryopreserved in vitro‐produced (IVP) embryos are usually low and/or inconsistent. The objective of this study was to evaluate the pregnancy rates of Holstein, Gyr and Holstein × Gyr cattle after the transfer of vitrified IVP embryos produced with X‐sorted sperm.

Bos taurus and Bos indicus genome sequencing

2015
The goals of the study and relevance is to explore the phylogenetic relationships and domestication history of Chinese native cattle and other foreign breeds, identify selected genes and genetic variants related to adaptation, domestication, disease-resistance, growth, and meat quality in different cattle breeds.

Synthesis of primary Bos taurus - Bos indicus chimaeric calves

Animal Reproduction Science, 1983
Attempts to produce primary Bos taurus-Bos indicus chimaeric calves by aggregation and co-culture of zona-free morulae were unsuccessful. Consequently, the blastocyst injection technique was developed for ruminant embryos. Between one and six inner cell mass cells were injected into 24 blastocysts which were transferred to 14 cows.
