Circumocular pigmentation and incidence of ocular squamous cell tumors in Bos taurus and Bos indicus × Bos taurus cattle [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1990
Summary Amount of circumocular pigmentation and incidence of ocular squamous cell tumors were evaluated in dams representing diverse cattle breed types. Each dam was examined twice annually during a specific stage in the life cycle (3.5 to 9.5 years old). Overall, 28.3% of dams in the herd developed at least 1 ocular squamous cell tumor.

Oocyte quality in adapted Bos taurus taurus cows

open access: yesAnimal Biotechnology, 2023
The objective of the current study was to determine the performance of creole cows of the Chino Santandereano breed in the ultrasound-guided follicular aspiration technique (OPU) and the quality of oocytes recovered. A total of 15 multiparous cows were selected from a herd located in the department of Santander with tropical climate.

In vitro performance of Zebu (Bos indicus) and Taurus (Bos taurus) donor cow embryos [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Saúde e Produção Animal, 2020
ABSTRACT In this study, the in vitro production of bovine embryos from zebu and taurine donors was compared. Cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) were obtained from 167 Bos taurus and 161 Bos indicus donors by ovum pick-up. COCs were classified based on their morphological quality, matured in incubators for 22 to 24 h in maturation medium, and then ...

The patterns of admixture, divergence, and ancestry of African cattle populations determined from genome-wide SNP data

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2020
Background Humpless Bos taurus cattle are one of the earliest domestic cattle in Africa, followed by the arrival of humped Bos indicus cattle. The diverse indigenous cattle breeds of Africa are derived from these migrations, with most appearing to be ...

Monomorphic allele rs109231213 in 3’UTR PLAG1 gene in purebred of Bali cattle (Bos javanicus) [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2022
The mutation rs109231213 that is located in 3’UTR of PLAG1 gene is associated with the growth and body weight in several Bos taurus and Bos indicus breeds. This study aimed to identify SNP rs109231213 in Bali cattle (Bos javanicus).

Sequence analysis in Bos taurus reveals pervasiveness of X–Y arms races in mammalian lineages

open access: yesGenome Research, 2020
Studies of Y Chromosome evolution have focused primarily on gene decay, a consequence of suppression of crossing-over with the X Chromosome. Here, we provide evidence that suppression of X–Y crossing-over unleashed a second dynamic: selfish X–Y arms ...

Assessing Bos taurus introgression in the UOA Bos indicus assembly [PDF]

open access: yesGenetics Selection Evolution, 2021
Abstract Background Reference genomes are essential in the analysis of genomic data. As the cost of sequencing decreases, multiple reference genomes are being produced within species to alleviate problems such as low mapping accuracy and reference allele bias in variant calling that can be associated with the alignment ...

Genome-Wide Scan Identifies Selection Signatures in Chinese Wagyu Cattle Using a High-Density SNP Array

open access: yesAnimals, 2019
Selective breeding can lead to genetic diversity and diverse phenotypes in farm animals. Analysis of the genomic regions under selection can provide important insights into the genetic basis of complex traits.

Abordagem multivariada envolvendo características físicas e morfológicas do sêmen bovino, idade dos touros e época de colheita de sêmen A multivariate approach for physical and morphological characteristics of cattle semen, age of bull and semen collection period
