The impacts of biological invasions

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 3, Page 1255-1310, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The Anthropocene is characterised by a continuous human‐mediated reshuffling of the distributions of species globally. Both intentional and unintentional introductions have resulted in numerous species being translocated beyond their native ranges, often leading to their establishment and subsequent spread – a process referred to as biological

Efficient Gene Expression System in Medaka Embryos Enables Functional Characterization of nt5c1a Paralogs Involved in Inosine Monophosphate Metabolism

open access: yesgenesis, Volume 64, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Optimizing transient expression systems in fish embryos is crucial for rapid gene function analysis. Here, we established an efficient system in medaka (Oryzias latipes) embryos by evaluating nucleic acid type and injection site. Our results revealed that injecting the elongation factor 1αA (ef1αA) promoter‐driven plasmid into the yolk yielded

Camera‐Trap Evidence of Myricaria sp. Consumption and Head‐Rubbing by a Wild Snow Leopard (Panthera uncia) in an Alpine Ecosystem

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Camera‐trap footage from the Shamshy co‐managed nature protected area, Kyrgyzstan, provides the first direct evidence of a wild snow leopard ingesting woody Myricaria sp., often alongside sniffing and head‐rubbing. Species‐specific use—snow leopards feeding in leaf‐poor periods vs.

Retention of the Full Visual Opsin Repertoire in Some Australian Cryptozoic Lizards

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study investigates the link between visual evolution and fossorial habits in the endemic Australian skink genus Lerista. We provide evidence for positive site‐specific selection in all 4 cone opsins, as well as relaxed selection specific to LWS. We also provide evidence of selection linked to limb reduction, an indicator of fossorial adaptation ...

Therapeutic Poxviruses Induce the Secretion of Immunostimulating and Anti‐Tumoral Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
Immune cells infected by therapeutic poxviruses release increased amounts of extracellular vesicles bearing viral proteins and therapeutic payloads. Such EVs have the ability to activate a CD8+ T‐cell mediated antitumoral immune response and decrease tumor growth.
