Impacts of Deforestation‐Driven Rainfall Reductions on Amazonia Forest Stability

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 11, 16 June 2026.
Abstract The stability of Amazonian vegetation is strongly influenced by land–atmosphere feedbacks. It has been hypothesized that deforestation‐induced precipitation decline may lead to widespread forest decline across the entire basin. Using a moisture‐tracking model, we quantify how deforestation across South America alters downwind rainfall and ...

Functional diversity drives leaf decomposition across rainfall–disturbance gradients, but phylogenetic effects vary

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Plant functional traits driving ecosystem functioning can have either similar or distinct evolutionary histories, meaning that both functional and phylogenetic diversity can jointly influence ecosystem dynamics. However, the relative importance of this relationship depends on the environmental context.

Taxonomic Updates of Thismia pseudomelanomitra (Thismiaceae) Reveal an Old Acquaintance From the Ecuadorian Amazon

open access: yesFeddes Repertorium, Volume 137, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The Amazon Basin is home to the world's greatest terrestrial biodiversity, but many plant groups remain poorly studied. One example is the mycoheterotrophic genus Thismia (Thismiaceae), which is notable for its highly specialized floral morphology and ephemeral life cycles, making it difficult to detect in the field and limiting its ...

Molecular phylogenetics clarifies generic boundaries of the papilionoid legume subtribe Clitoriinae

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 75, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract Clitoriinae is a morphologically distinctive and pantropically distributed subtribe within the legume tribe Phaseoleae (Leguminosae, Papilionoideae), yet its genus‐level taxonomic classification remains uncertain. This study presents the most comprehensive phylogenetic analysis of Clitoriinae to date, integrating plastid (matK/trnK) and ...

Revisiting the typification of Lippia riedeliana (Verbenaceae)

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 75, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract The present study revisits the previously selected lectotype for Lippia riedeliana, which was designated in a proposal to reject this name. According to our reinterpretation, this typification was based on non‐original material and, therefore, must be superseded. The holotype is at LE, and this specimen must be cited accordingly.
