Swarm-Bots to the Rescue [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We explore the problem of resource allocation in a system made up of autonomous agents that can either carry out tasks individually or, when necessary, cooperate by forming physical connections with each other. We consider a group transport scenario that involves transporting broken robots to a repair zone.

Embedded Ferroelectric Nanoclusters Can Drive Polarization Reversal in a Non‐Ferroelectric Polar Film via the Proximity Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric nanoclusters create local internal fields in a normally non‐switchable polar film because of polarization mismatch at their interfaces. That field opposes polarization in the regions with larger polarization and reinforces polarization in the regions with smaller polarization.

Bots and Automation over Twitter during the Second U.S. Presidential Debate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Bots are social media accounts that automate interaction with other users, and political bots have been particularly active on public policy issues, political crises, and elections.

Operando Tracking of Oxygen‐Vacancy Dynamics and Negative Capacitance in Ca‐Doped BiFeO3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Operando electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, combined with electrocoloration, enables a direct correlation between real‐space ionic redistribution and the corresponding frequency‐domain electrical response. In lateral Ca‐doped BiFeO3 devices, time‐resolved impedance snapshots capture the evolution from bulk‐dominated mixed conduction to an ...

Characterising and Detecting Social Bots [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Social bots have been on the rise since the creation of Online Social Networks (OSN). These automated programs bring both positive and negative impacts to our online experience. On the positive end, chatbots can provide instant customer service to us and

DCA for bot detection [PDF]

open access: yes2008 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence), 2008
Ensuring the security of computers is a non-trivial task, with many techniques used by malicious users to compromise these systems. In recent years a new threat has emerged in the form of networks of hijacked zombie machines used to perform complex distributed attacks such as denial of service and to obtain sensitive data such as password information ...

Load Distributing Metamaterials Via Discrete Optimization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mechanical metamaterials are computationally optimized to homogenize transmitted forces by minimizing the spread of reaction forces. The resulting architectures transform localized loading into broader, more uniform force distributions and experimentally demonstrate robust load spreading under quasi‐static and impact loading.

In Situ Magnetic Ordering and Microfabrication of Liquid Crystal Networks with Discretized Alignment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Miniaturizing liquid crystal network actuators typically demands costly laser writing or digital light processing. A low‐cost photolithography platform couples rotating photomasks with a Halbach magnetic array to discretize in‐plane molecular alignment down to 50 µm, producing programmable, light‐responsive grippers, checkerboards, and origami‐inspired
