An Effective Bottleneck Detection Method for Job Shop
2010 International Conference on Computing, Control and Industrial Engineering, 2010A new bottleneck definition from the perspective of the manufacturing system’s objective is proposed. A distinct bottleneck detection method based on orthogonal experiment (BD-OE) for job shop is proposed according to the definition. The method takes the objective of the manufacturing system as estimated index, carries out typical and finite number of ...

Evaluation of Optimization Methods for Network Bottleneck Diagnosis
Fourth International Conference on Autonomic Computing (ICAC'07), 2007We consider the problem of localizing network performance bottlenecks and evaluate how various optimization techniques developed for reconstructing link delays perform on this decision problem. We provide some practical suggestions on which approach to use in different scenarios.

A new method for measuring the bottleneck bandwidth
IEEE International Conference onServices Computing, 2004. (SCC 2004). Proceedings. 2004, 2004Measuring the bottleneck bandwidth of a path is useful to many applications. The existing tools to measure the network bottleneck bandwidth are mostly based on the packet pair technique. But the intrinsic error exists in packet pair technique due to the effect of the data link layer, and the incorrect results obtained by the filter algorithm when the ...

Removal of the bottleneck in local correlation methods
Chemical Physics Letters, 1997Abstract We present preliminary results from a new hybrid pseudospectral local correlation method in which we combine the pseudospectral approximation to two-electron integral evaluation with local truncation of the virtual space to accelerate singles and double excitation configuration interaction (SDCI).

A network reinforcement method based on bottleneck indicators
2017 IEEE Manchester PowerTech, 2017This paper presents a network reinforcement method, capable of considering different expansion measures such as voltage upgrade, repowering with High Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) as well as the construction of new parallel lines. The motivation is to exploit the possibility of optimizing the existing network structure before considering the building of ...

Unsupervised object category discovery via information bottleneck method
Proceedings of the 18th ACM international conference on Multimedia, 2010We present a novel approach to automatically discover object categories from a collection of unlabeled images. This is achieved by the Information Bottleneck method, which finds the optimal partitioning of the image collection by maximally preserving the relevant information with respect to the latent semantic residing in the image contents.

Comparison of bottleneck detection methods for AGV systems
Proceedings of the 2003 International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics (IEEE Cat. No.03EX693), 2004The performance of a manufacturing or logistic system is determined by its constraints. Therefore, in order to improve the performance, it is necessary to improve the constraints, also known as the bottlenecks. Finding the bottlenecks, however, is not easy.

Polar code construction using the information bottleneck method
2018 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW), 2018The provably capacity-achieving error-correction capability of polar codes prospered huge interest in academia and industry. The explicit structure of polar codes leads to a different notion of code construction which refers to the assignment of information bits to certain positions in that structure instead of the design of the structure itself. State-

Cross-Modal Clustering With Deep Correlated Information Bottleneck Method
IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning SystemsCross-modal clustering (CMC) intends to improve the clustering accuracy (ACC) by exploiting the correlations across modalities. Although recent research has made impressive advances, it remains a challenge to sufficiently capture the correlations across modalities due to the high-dimensional nonlinear characteristics of individual modalities and the ...

An augmenting path method for solving Linear Bottleneck Transportation problems
Computing, 1979An efficient method for solving Linear Bottleneck Transportation problems is described. The method starts with a heuristically determined lower bound for the optimal value. Shortest augmenting paths are constructed with the aid of a modification of the algorithm of Dijkstra. Comprehensive numerical investigations are reported and discussed.
