Decoding Rate-Compatible 5G-LDPC Codes With Coarse Quantization Using the Information Bottleneck Method

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society, 2020
Increased data rates and very low-latency requirements place strict constraints on the computational complexity of channel decoders in the new 5G communications standard.

Improving the fairness of FAST TCP to new flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
It has been observed that FAST TCP, and the related protocol TCP Vegas, suffer unfairness when many flows arrive at a single bottleneck link, without intervening departures.

Information Bottlenecks, Causal States, and Statistical Relevance Bases: How to Represent Relevant Information in Memoryless Transduction

open access: yes, 2000
Discovering relevant, but possibly hidden, variables is a key step in constructing useful and predictive theories about the natural world. This brief note explains the connections between three approaches to this problem: the recently introduced ...

All‐in‐One Analog AI Hardware: On‐Chip Training and Inference with Conductive‐Metal‐Oxide/HfOx ReRAM Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐in‐one analog AI accelerator is presented, enabling on‐chip training, weight retention, and long‐term inference acceleration. It leverages a BEOL‐integrated CMO/HfOx ReRAM array with low‐voltage operation (<1.5 V), multi‐bit capability over 32 states, low programming noise (10 nS), and near‐ideal weight transfer.

Microscopic insights into pedestrian motion through a bottleneck, resolving spatial and temporal variations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The motion of pedestrians is subject to a wide range of influences and exhibits a rich phenomenology. To enable precise measurement of the density and velocity we use an alternative definition using Voronoi diagrams which exhibits smaller fluctuations ...

Measuring digital crime investigation capacity to guide international crime prevention strategies

open access: yes, 2013
This work proposes a method for the measurement of a country's digital investigation capacity and saturation for the assessment of future capacity expansion. The focus is on external, or international, partners being a factor that could negatively affect

Selective Benzene Capture by Metal‐Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) hold significant potential for capturing benzene from air emissions and hydrocarbon mixtures in liquid phases. This capability stems from their precisely engineered structures, versatile chemistries, and diverse binding interactions.

Lung cell image segmentation method combining Attention U-Net and bottleneck detection

open access: yes智能科学与技术学报, 2022
Lung pathological images are characterized by fuzzy boundary and overlapping and interweining cells. In order to solve the problem of cell segmentation, a lung cell image segmentation method combining Attention U-Net and bottleneck detection was proposed ...

PEDOT‐Based Eutectogel Electrode Arrays for Enhanced High‐Resolution Electrogastrography: Fabrication, Stability, and Wearable Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we present a high‐density PEDOT eutectogel electrode array for enhanced body surface gastric mapping. Silver electrodes are blade‐coated onto flexible substrates, followed by electrogelation of PEDOT:PSS and the deposition of a PEDOT:LS eutectogel.

Slim Embedding Layers for Recurrent Neural Language Models

open access: yes, 2017
Recurrent neural language models are the state-of-the-art models for language modeling. When the vocabulary size is large, the space taken to store the model parameters becomes the bottleneck for the use of recurrent neural language models. In this paper,
