Marine litter in bottom trawls off the Portuguese coast

Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2015
Benthic marine litter along the Portuguese coast, was recorded in 14 trips on stern trawlers covering a distance of 2117 km and an area of 56.2 km(2), average depth range 90-349 m. 2034 items of marine litter were registered, 76% were plastics and 38.6% were originated from fishing related activities.

Exploratory bottom trawling in Lake Victoria

2021
When the Lake Victoria Fisheries Research Project began, the background information necessary for the successful application of quantitative stock assessment was lacking. For this. reason and also due to the size of Lake Victoria, the complexity and variety of its many habitats, and its multispecies fishery, it was decided that initial stock assessment

A Transactional and Collaborative Approach to Reducing Effects of Bottom Trawling

Conservation Biology, 2013
Abstract Private‐sector financial and legal transactions have long been used to protect terrestrial habitats and working landscapes, but less commonly to address critical threats in marine environments. Transferrable and marketable fishing privileges, including permits and quotas, make it possible to use private‐sector transactions as

The geometrical gear shape of a bottom trawl

Ocean Engineering, 2014
Abstract An estimation of the gear shape during a bottom trawl can be achieved through geometrical modeling of the trawl system. This can be implemented by processing the field data obtained using the Scanmar system. The gear shape from the square through the bag net was assumed to be the upper and lower parts of different elliptic cones of which the

Modelling Diurnal Variation In Bottom Trawl Catches

1999
No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author.Diurnal variability in bottom trawl survey catches may influence the quality of the survey results when not taken properly into account. This is especially the case if diurnal effects vary substantially from year to year.

Dynamic Analysis of Trawl Doors Applied in Bottom Trawls to Catch Shrimp

This work deals with the dynamic analysis of a new design of trawl doors. The model is constrained to steady towing conditions with velocity constant, flat seabed and gear symmetry. The Ordinary Differential Equations (ODE) of the system includes the effects of the warp and the ropes in terms of external forces. In the mathematical model the influences

Bottom trawl teuthofauna of the Aegean Sea

1997
The bathymetric distribution and catch composition of cephalopods in the Aegean Sea were investigated. For this purpose a total of 292 bottom trawls were carried out seasonally during 1991 and 1992. Sampling depths ranged between 20 and 500 m. A total of 30 species were recorded, with Sepiola intermedia and Histioteuthis bonnellii being found in the ...
