A Global Methane Observation System to Reduce Uncertainty for Anthropogenic and Natural Sources and Sinks for Detecting and Attributing Climate Feedbacks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conceptual illustration of a Global Ecosystem Methane Observing System (GEM‐OS) integrating satellites, aircraft, atmospheric networks, and ecosystem measurements to quantify methane emissions from anthropogenic and natural sources. The multi‐scale observing framework improves source attribution, reduces uncertainty in regional methane budgets, and ...

Maximizing the Energy Output of Soft Electrohydraulic Generators

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Many energy resources cannot be viably harvested with electromagnetic generators. This article evaluates the potential of soft electrohydraulic generators as an alternative approach for energy capture. An analytical model charts their operational limits and a rigorous experimental study results in new performance benchmarks with maximum specific energy

Thermal Control of Concentric Topographies Patterned by Dynamic Electro‐Templated Generated Chiral Solitonic Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An electro‐templating strategy directs the relaxation of cholesteric finger loops into discrete concentric rings whose geometry is electrically programmed. The photopolymerized structures retain the topological defect pattern and, upon heating, show reversible, castle‐like surface modulation.

The Effect of Weight Training using A Hangboard on Improving The Grip Strength Endurance of Boulder Climbing Athletes

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Physical Education and Sport Science
Studi purpose. In boulder climbing competitions, most athletes fall because they cannot grip specific holds, preventing them from climbing on sight. This study aims to examine the effect of weight training using a hangboard on improving the grip strength

Physiological demands and nutritional considerations for Olympic-style competitive rock climbing

open access: yesCogent Medicine, 2019
Rock climbing is a fast-growing sport. Nutritional recommendations for climbing performance remain limited. In a sport where reduced fuel availability/dehydration could result in declined performance and fatal error, nutrition is key to a successful ...

Factorization Machine‐Based Active Learning for Functional Materials Design with Optimal Initial Data

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This work investigates the optimal initial data size for surrogate‐based active learning in functional material optimization. Using factorization machine (FM)‐based quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) surrogates and averaged piecewise linear regression, we show that adequate initial data accelerates convergence, enhances efficiency, and ...
