Bound Water, Phase Configuration, and Dielectric Damping Effects on TDR-Measured Apparent Permittivity

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, 2019
The time domain reflectometry (TDR) method measures the soil apparent permittivity (), which is the basis for estimation of soil volumetric water content (θ) via an empirical calibration equation or dielectric mixing model.

PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.

Free/bound water absorption in an epoxy adhesive

open access: yes, 2005
International audienceThe classic Fickian approach for describing the kinetics of liquid diffusion/absorption in solids was supplemented some 25 years ago by the 2-phase model of Carter and Kibler, referred to by them (modestly) as ‘Langmuir-type'. Their

Rapid on-site Assessment of Wood Chips Moisture and Lignin for Kraft Pulping Digesters Using Portable NIR Spectroscopy

open access: yesBioResources
Rapid on-site assessment of wood quality can significantly enhance decision-making and operational efficiency in the pulp and paper industry. Spectroscopic techniques, including near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, can be used to characterise wood, but ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐
