Predictive Microstructural Modeling of Grain-boundary Interactions and Their Effects on Overall Crystalline Behavior

open access: yes, 2009
A dislocation-density grain boundary interaction scheme (DDGBI) has been developed to account for complex interrelated dislocation-density interactions of emission, absorption and transmission in grain-boundary (GB) regions for bicrystals and ...

Effect of Different Infill Types on the Cyclic Behavior of Steel Plate Shear Walls

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The steel plate shear wall (SPSW) is a prevalent lateral load-resisting system in high-rise steel buildings. Comprising a boundary frame and an infill plate, its performance is the focus of this study.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Entanglement asymmetry in CFT with boundary symmetry breaking

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We examine the behavior of the entanglement asymmetry in the ground state of a (1+1)-dimensional conformal field theory with a boundary condition that explicitly breaks a bulk symmetry.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Free convection boundary layers driven by exothermic surface reactions: critical ambient temperatures

open access: yes, 1995
A model for the free convection boundary-layer flow near a forward stagnation point driven by heating from a surface on which there is a catalytic reaction is discussed.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

A quantitative assessment of random field models in finite element buckling analyses of composite cylinders

open access: yes, 2012
Large scatter characterizes the collapse load of thin-walled structures due to their imperfection sensitivity. Random fields can be used to include imperfections in a finite element model.
