Boundary conditions in the Unruh problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We have analyzed the Unruh problem in the frame of quantum field theory and have shown that the Unruh quantization scheme is valid in the double Rindler wedge rather than in Minkowski spacetime.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Generalized viscosity solutions of elliptic PDEs and boundary conditions

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2006
Sufficient conditions are given for a generalized viscosity solution of an elliptic boundary value problem to satisfy the boundary values in the strong sense.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Boundary conditions for quadrupolar metamaterials

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2014
One of the long-standing problems in effective medium theories is using the knowledge of the bulk material response to predict the behavior of the electromagnetic fields at the material boundaries.

Random-Cluster Dynamics in Z^2: Rapid Mixing with General Boundary Conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The random-cluster (FK) model is a key tool for the study of phase transitions and for the design of efficient Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling algorithms for the Ising/Potts model.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Multiple solutions for semilinear elliptic equations with nonlinear boundary conditions

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2012
We consider the elliptic problem with nonlinear boundary conditions: $$displaylines{ -Delta u +bu=f(x,u)quadhbox{in }Omega,cr -partial_{u}u=|u|^{q-1}u-g(u)quadhbox{on }partialOmega, }$$ where $Omega$ is a bounded domain in $mathbb{R}^n$.

A Signed Maximum Principle for Boundary Value Problems for Riemann–Liouville Fractional Differential Equations with Analogues of Neumann or Periodic Boundary Conditions

open access: yesMathematics
Sufficient conditions are obtained for a signed maximum principle for boundary value problems for Riemann–Liouville fractional differential equations with analogues of Neumann or periodic boundary conditions in neighborhoods of simple eigenvalues.

Quantum cavities with alternating boundary conditions

open access: yes, 2017
We consider the quantum dynamics of a free nonrelativistic particle moving in a cavity and we analyze the effect of a rapid switching between two different boundary conditions.
