An Auxiliary tool to determine the height of the boundary layer

open access: yes, 2005
Results from radiosoundings, performed both over land and over sea, show that the ascent rate of a radiosounding balloon, the vertical velocity of the balloon, can be used to determine the height of the boundary layer.

Bridging the Gap: Automated Transformation of IoT Data Streams for ISO 27001-Compliant Logging in Ambient Assisted Living Environments

open access: yesApplied Sciences
A control that cannot be audited is a control that does not yet exist operationally. Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) Internet of Things (IoT) devices in Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) environments expose this problem sharply: they export raw behavioural ...

Self‐Cleaning Sensor Surfaces for Long‐Term Environmental Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Long‐term use of unattended outdoor sensors without soiling or biofouling is achieved through generation of a micro‐ and nanorough cuvette surface by combing hydrophobic nanoparticles with fluorinated polymers, crosslinked and surface‐attached through CHic chemistry. The coating demonstrates self‐cleaning behavior and prolonged outdoor stability, which

Experimental investigation of unsteadiness in transonic shock boundary layer interaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Transonic shock wave/boundary layer interaction over a wall-mounted bump was investigated with specific focus on shock wave unsteadiness and identification of its source. A large separation bubble resulted of an interaction driven by a flow characterized

Entropy‐Driven Design of Low‐Melting‐Point Alloys via Compositionally Complex Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Conventional low‐melting‐point alloys (LMPAs) are limited by a narrow compositional space and inherent property trade‐offs. This review presents an entropy‐driven design strategy that overcomes these limitations, ushering in a new class of low‐melting‐point compositionally complex alloys (LMCCAs).

Design of a Multistable Finger Prosthesis with Programmable Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This research article shows the development of a multistable programmble metamaterial for the use as a finger prosthesis. The material was designed on different hierarchical levels where the influence of geometrical parameters and combination of mechanical elements was explored.

Numerical studies of the influence of food ingestion on phytoplankton and zooplankton biomasses

open access: yesOceanologia, 2002
This paper presents the numerical simulations of the influence of food ingestion by a herbivorous copepod on phytoplankton and zooplankton biomasses (PZB) in the sea.

Gallium Microalloying in Bi–Sn Solders: Interfacial Phase Formation, Wettability, and Long‐Term Shear Reliability Under Isothermal Aging

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Gallium microalloying redirects interfacial reactions in low‐temperature Bi–Sn solders from Cu–Sn toward Cu–Ga intermetallic formation. The resulting Cu–Ga layer suppresses intermetallic growth during thermal aging, alters fracture pathways, and improves interfacial stability.

Effects of Mg on Microstructure and Solidification of a Hypereutectic Zn–8 wt.%Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An appreciable set of results involving thermal data, microstructure, chemical composition, and microstructural growth laws is reported for ZnAlMg alloys. Such results demonstrate that ZnAlMg alloys have high potential for applications in automotive self‐lubricating components, batteries, and electrical systems.
