Performance of a Boundary Layer Ingesting (BLI) Propulsion System

open access: yes45th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2007
This paper presents an assessment of the performance of an embedded propulsion system in the presence of distortion associated with boundary layer ingestion. For fan pressure ratios of interest for civil transports, the benefits of boundary layer ingestion are shown to be very sensitive to the magnitude of fan and duct losses.

Fundamental Concepts of Boundary-Layer Ingestion Propulsion

open access: yesJournal of Aircraft
This work further develops energy-based far-field methods by introducing Galilean covariance in work–energy relationships of flight. The novelty lies in how decomposition formulations are rederived from integral forms of the governing laws applicable to ...

Flowfield of an S-Shaped Inlet with High Boundary-Layer Ingestion Fraction

Journal of Aircraft
The efficiency of boundary-layer ingestion (BLI) propulsion systems is closely related to the amount of ingested boundary layer. A high BLI fraction requires low propulsor flow power. In this paper, the internal flow characteristics and performance of an

Aeroacoustics of the propeller Boundary Layer Ingestion configuration for varying thrusts

open access: yesJournal of Sound and Vibration
The Boundary Layer Ingestion (BLI) configuration is a promising installed propulsion arrangement for aircraft owing to its potential to boost aerodynamic efficiency. However, it is prone to generate additional noise as the inflow to the propulsion system
