Defects and boundary layers in non-Euclidean plates

open access: yes, 2012
We investigate the behavior of non-Euclidean plates with constant negative Gaussian curvature using the F\"oppl-von K\'arm\'an reduced theory of elasticity. Motivated by recent experimental results, we focus on annuli with a periodic profile.

ATG4B is required for mTORC1‐mediated anabolic activity and is associated with clinical outcomes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The relationship between anabolic and catabolic processes governing lung cancer cell growth is nuanced. We show that ATG4B, an autophagy regulator, is elevated in lung cancer and that high ATG4B is associated with worse patient outcomes. Targeting ATG4B in cells reduces growth, protein synthesis, and mTORC1 activity, demonstrating a new relationship ...

Meteorological Influences on Trace Gas Transport along the North Atlantic Coast during ICARTT 2004

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2014
An analysis of coastal meteorological mechanisms facilitating the transit pollution plumes emitted from sources in the Northeastern U.S. was based on observations from the International Consortium for Atmospheric Research on Transport and Transformation (

Naked cuticle is essential for Drosophila wing development beyond Wingless signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Naked cuticle (Nkd), a Wnt signaling inhibitor, assumes extensive roles in Drosophila wing development. Overexpressing Nkd causes smaller, crumpled wings, while also perturbing multiple signaling pathways and developmental genes. A specific region (R1S) is critical for Nkd's function as a signaling integrator, offering new insights for studying its ...

A novel technique for the calculation of post-stall aerodynamic coefficients for S809 airfoil [PDF]

open access: yesFME Transactions, 2020
In the autumn of 2000, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) organised a 'blind comparison', in which wind turbine research centres worldwide were asked to provide stationary aerodynamic loads for the wind turbine Phase VI and aerodynamic ...

Navigating new norms: a systematic review of factors for the development of effective digital tools in higher education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
What factors make for an effective digital learning tool in Higher Education? This systematic review identifies elements of a digital tool that published examples reveal to be features of an engaging and impactful digital tool. A systematic literature search yielded 25 research papers for analysis.

Boundary layers for transmission problems with singularities

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2006
We study two-dimensional transmission problems for the Laplace operator for two diffusion coefficients. We describe the boundary layers of this problem and show that the layers appear only in the part where the coefficient is large.

Nonparallel stability of boundary layers [PDF]

open access: yes
The asymptotic formulations of the nonparallel linear stability of incompressible growing boundary layers are critically reviewed. These formulations can be divided into two approaches.
