Adaptive Numerical Modeling of Tsunami Wave Generation and Propagation with FreeFem++

open access: yesGeosciences, 2020
A simplified nonlinear dispersive Boussinesq system of the Benjamin–Bona–Mahony (BBM)-type, initially derived by Mitsotakis (2009), is employed here in order to model the generation and propagation of surface water waves over variable bottom.

Sensitivity of Double‐Diffusive Mixed Convection in an Enclosure With a Zigzag Bottom Wall and a Torsionally Oscillating Lid Using Hybrid Nanofluid

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 7, July 2026.
This study investigates the nature of sensitivity of an unsteady double‐diffusive mixed convective analysis in a trapezoidal enclosure featuring a zigzag bottom wall and a torsionally oscillating lid. This cavity is filled by a hybrid nanofluid (Ag‐MgO‐H2O). The cavity also contains internal heat generation.

Uncertainty Quantification of Analytical Solutions for the Nonlinear Space and Time Fractional Order ϕ4$$ {\phi}^4 $$ Equation Under Fuzziness

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 7, July 2026.
Analytical fuzzy soliton solutions of a modified space–time fractional ϕ4$$ {\phi}^4 $$ model are derived using EHFM, capturing memory effects and uncertainty. Results reveal diverse wave structures and show how fractional order and fuzziness significantly influence soliton amplitude, localization, and propagation, with heightened sensitivity near the ...

Slender vortex filaments in the Boussinesq approximation

open access: yesPhysics of Fluids
A model for the motion of slender vortex filaments is extended to include the effect of gravity. The model, initially introduced by Callegari and Ting [“Motion of a curved vortex filament with decaying vortical core and axial velocity,” SIAM J. Appl. Math.

The Annual Modulation of Subtidal Estuarine Dynamics by the Gulf Stream

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Boundary currents transport salt and heat along shelf breaks and exhibit distinct subtidal variability. The proximity of boundary currents to the coast suggests they could influence estuarine boundary conditions. However, the influence of boundary currents on estuarine dynamics is underexplored, and a mechanistic framework for the interaction ...

Natural convection flow near a vertical plate that applies a shear stress to a viscous fluid. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The unsteady natural convection flow of an incompressible viscous fluid near a vertical plate that applies an arbitrary shear stress to the fluid is studied using the Laplace transform technique. The fluid flow is due to both the shear and the heating of

Interface Deformation, Exhumation, and Underplating: The Role of Plate Velocity Changes Throughout the Evolution of a Subduction Zone

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Exhumed metamorphic rocks yield critical insights into the mechanical, chemical, and thermal structure of the plate interface that can be used to infer exhumation pathways and their evolution throughout a subduction zone's lifetime. Metamorphosed oceanic rocks often record exhumation and underplating over relatively punctuated time periods ...

Assessment of the boussinesq approximation for buoyancy-driven flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The numerical simulation of buoyant flows often makes use of the Boussinesq approximation. This is particularly true when Direct Numerical Simulation is used for the analysis of heat transfer loops or other applications of natural convection flows ...

Analysis of coupling between hydrodynamic and thermal instabilities in non-Boussinesq convection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
[Abstract]: High-temperature convection arises in many technical applications such as thermal insulation systems, chemical vapour deposition reactors, etc. Under high-temperature conditions, fluid density and transport property variations can reach up to

On nonisothermal two‐fluid channel flows

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2007
Two‐fluid channel flows arise in different kinds of coating technologies. The corresponding mathematical models represent two‐dimensional free boundary value problems for the Navier‐Stokes equations or their modifications.
