Vine copula based likelihood estimation of dependence patterns in multivariate event time data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
In many studies multivariate event time data are generated from clusters having a possibly complex association pattern. Flexible models are needed to capture this dependence. Vine copulas serve this purpose. Inference methods for vine copulas are available for complete data. Event time data, however, are often subject to right-censoring.

Oral supplementation of medium-chain fatty acids during the dry period supports the neutrophil viability of peripartum dairy cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A randomised clinical trial was conducted to explore the effect of orally supplemented medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA) to heifers and cows starting 6-8 weeks prior to expected calving date on blood and milk polymorphonuclear neutrophilic leucocyte (PMNL)

Therapeutic effects of conditioned – DPBS from amniotic stem cells on lactating cow mastitis

open access: yesTaiwanese Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2020
Objective: Bovine mastitis results in economic loss due to decrease in milk production. Antibiotic ointments are commonly used for treating. However, residue and anti-microbial resistance warranted attention progressively.

Virulence factors of Escherichia coli: an overview of animal and human infections with emphasis in bovine mastitis

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Agrárias, 2019
Escherichia coli is a normal inhabitant of the enteric microflora of human and animal. Intestinal and extra-intestinal infections caused by E. coli in mammals are characterized by the presence of diversity of virulence factors.

Validation of Biometric Identification of Dairy Cows based on Udder NIR Images [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Identifying dairy cows with infections such as mastitis or cows on medications is an extremely important task and legally required by the FDA$'$s Pasteurized Milk Ordinance. The milk produced by these dairy cows cannot be allowed to mix with the milk from healthy cows or it risks contaminating the entire bulk tank or milk truck.

Haptoglobin and serum amyloid A in relation to the somatic cell count in quarter, cow composite and bulk tank milk samples [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Milk somatic cell count (SCC) is the gold standard in diagnosis of subclinical mastitis, and is also an important parameter in quality programmes of dairy cooperatives.

Use of on-farm data to guide treatment and control mastitis caused by Streptococcus uberis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Treatment of mastitis is the most common reason for use of antimicrobial agents in dairy cattle. The responsible use of antimicrobials could be strengthened by knowledge of predictors for cure, which would help to tailor treatment decisions.

Pathogen-specific production losses in bovine mastitis.

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2018
Reduction in long-term milk yields represents a notable share of the economic losses caused by bovine mastitis. Efficient, economic, and safe measures to prevent these losses require knowledge of the causal agent of the disease. The aim of this study was

MiCull2 -- simulating mastitis transmission through milking order [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Contagious mastitis pathogens can be transmitted through milking. However, previously published simulation models, such as MiCull, have not directly taken this into account. We have reimplemented the MiCull model to model transmission of contagious mastitis pathogens through milking in a milking parlor. This additional complexity requires a substantial

ToF-SIMS Investigations on Dental Implant Materials and Adsorbed Protein Films [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
In this work the two experimental dental implant materials FAT and FAW, made of fluoroapatite particles embedded in polymer matrices, and films of the proteins lysozyme, amylase and bovine serum albumin (BSA), adsorbed to the two dental implant materials, were investigated with time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) and the ...
