ABSTRACT Background Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen in cystic fibrosis‐related chronic rhinosinusitis (CF‐CRS) that produces phenazine metabolites pyocyanin and 1‐hydroxyphenazine (1‐HP), which may have detrimental effects on mitochondria, reactive oxygen species (ROS), Ca2+ signaling, and apoptosis.

Polydatin alleviates mitochondrial damage and apoptosis of lung epithelial cells by inhibiting toll‐like receptor 4‐dependent macrophage activation in asthma

The alleviation of asthma by polydatin is dependent on the blockage of the toll‐like receptor 4 (TLR4)/P2X7R synergy in macrophages. The blockage of the TLR4/P2X7R synergy results in decreased release and secretion of interleukin‐1β (IL‐1β) and IL‐18. In epithelial cells, low IL‐1β and IL‐18 levels inhibit mitochondrial damage and apoptosis.

The OtR tumor recurrence and metastasis model reveals doxorubicin‐induced tumor shrinkage doesn't guarantee prolonged survival

Tumor growth inhibition does not predict survival benefit in a clinically relevant metastasis model. Tumor local growth and systemic metastasis represent distinct biological processes. In the 4T1‐OtR model, although chemotherapy significantly suppresses primary tumor growth, it fails to prevent distant metastasis or extend overall survival.

Redox‐Responsive Mitochondrial Delivery from Functionalized Vascular Stent Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
A redox‐responsive stent surface is engineered to deliver functional mitochondria in response to oxidative stress. Upon exposure to reactive oxygen species, grafted mitochondria are released, internalized by vascular cells, and restore mitochondrial function under stress.
