Analytical bow waves for fine ship bows with rake and flare

open access: yesJournal of Ship Research, 2011
The bow wave generated by a steadily advancing ship is considered for a family of fine ruled ship bows with rake and flare. This family of ship bows is defined in terms of four parameters: the ship draft D, the entrance angles a and a' at the top and bottom waterlines, and the rake angle 8.

Bow-Tie Cavity for Terahertz Radiation

open access: yes, 2018
We report on the development, testing, and performance analysis of a bow-tie resonant cavity for terahertz (THz) radiation, injected with a continuous-wave 2.55 THz quantum cascade laser.

An Experimental Study of Wave Impact Loads on an FPSO Bow in 2D Wave-Tank

open access: yes한국해양공학회지
In harsh environments, an floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) is occasionally damaged by impact loads, such as bow flare slamming and green water.

Intelligent optimization design of wave-piercing bow lines for planing craft

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu
ObjectiveThe bow lines of a planing craft have a significant influence on its seakeeping performance, making their intelligent optimization design necessary.MethodsThis study focuses on a certain type of wave-piercing bow planing craft and uses the stem ...

A new numerical framework for large-eddy simulation of waves generated by objects piercing water surface

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2019
A novel numerical framework is developed for large-eddy simulation (LES) of interactions among air, water, and solid bodies. The motions of air and water are solved on a fixed block-structured mesh, with the air–water interface captured using the volume ...

Low-frequency magnetic field fluctuations in Venus' solar wind interaction region: Venus Express observations [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2010
We investigate wave properties of low-frequency magnetic field fluctuations in Venus' solar wind interaction region based on the measurements made on board the Venus Express spacecraft.

Terahertz imaging of sub-wavelength particles with Zenneck surface waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Impact of sub-wavelength-size dielectric particles on Zenneck surface waves on planar metallic antennas is investigated at terahertz (THz) frequencies with THz near-field probe microscopy.

Bow Shock and magnetosheath waves at Mercury [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research, 1976
Mariner 10 measurements at the Mercury bow shock provide examples where the magnetic field is approximately parallel or perpendicular to the bow shock normal. Upstream of a broad irregular parallel shock, left hand circularly polarized waves are observed which cut off very sharply at approximately 4 Hz.

Characterization of Surface Motion of Submerged Unmanned Ship in Freak Waves Environment

open access: yesShanghai Jiaotong Daxue xuebao
When a ship encounters abnormal waves, the instantaneous impact will cause a drastic change in the wave load, potentially leading to capsizing in serious cases. To investigate the special ship type that can effectively withstand the impact of freak waves,

Magnetic field fluctuations across the Earth’s bow shock [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2001
We present a statistical analysis of 132 dayside (LT 0700-1700) bow shock crossings of the AMPTE/IRM spacecraft. We perform a superposed epoch analysis of low frequency, magnetic power spectra some minutes up-stream and downstream of the bow shock ...
