Implementation of the box-counting method in radiographic images
2009In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the physics and physical chemistry of fractals. Fractal systems show new physical properties and anomalous behavior. The box-counting method is an appropriate method of fractal dimension evaluation for images with or without self-similarity.

A novel grid-box-counting method for blind separation of sources
Proceedings of 2001 International Symposium on Intelligent Multimedia, Video and Speech Processing. ISIMP 2001 (IEEE Cat. No.01EX489), 2002The independence of random variables (RVs) can be evaluated by simply 'counting grid-boxes'. The paper considers this interesting phenomenon, gives theoretical explanations for it and proposes a simple method for blind source separation (BSS). The new method shows high performance in separating multimedia signals and favors digital implementation.

Box-Counting Method in Quantitative Analysis of Images of the Brain
2017 21st International Conference on Control Systems and Computer Science (CSCS), 2017The introduction of fractal geometry in the neurosciences has been a major paradigm shift over the last decades as it has helped overcome approximations and limitations that occur when reductionist approaches are used to analyze neurons or the entire brain. Fractal geometry allows for quantitative analysis and description of the geometric complexity of

Study of Minimum Box-Counting Method for image fractal dimension estimation
2008 China International Conference on Electricity Distribution, 2008Difference box-counting method (DBCM) was used for partial discharge (PD) gray intensity image fractal dimension estimation, however, ldquoempty boxrdquo may exist and lead to a larger box-number than normal over fractal surface, therefore it is not universal to fractal dimension estimation for digital images, especially when the surfaces vary a lot ...

Cancer tissues recognition system using box counting method and artificial neural network
2011 International Conference of Soft Computing and Pattern Recognition (SoCPaR), 2011The research presented in this paper was aimed to develop a recognition system for microscopic images of breast tissues samples. The system should classify breast tissues as malignant or not, or identifying their malignancy types. In this paper, multi-scale fractal dimension concept was used to extract a set of textural features in order to perform ...

Computation of Dimensions for Strange Attractors by the Box Counting Renormalization Method
Communications in Theoretical Physics, 1992The scaling ansats for box counting functions is verified numerically for the reverse doubling sequence of the logistic map. A box counting renormalisation method is developed to calculate dimensions for strange attractors.

Comparison of gliding box and box-counting methods in soil image analysis
Geoderma, 2006Abstract Three soil images with different spatial arrangements and porosities ranging from 5% to 47% were analyzed to calculate their generalized dimensions ( D q ). The first partitioning method applied in these calculations was box-counting, in which a grid is used to study the local distribution of porosity at different scales.

Research on a precise differential box-counting method of eliminating image background
SPIE Proceedings, 2016Differential box-counting (DBC) method has been widely used to calculate fractal dimension. analyzing the result of fractal dimension with background image by estimating this traditional method,we find that this algorithm has the limitation to estimate fractal dimension of images with background accurately.

Nonlinear fractal dynamics of human colonic pressure activity based upon the box-counting method
Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering, 2013The computational fractal dimension of human colonic pressure activity acquired by a telemetric capsule robot under normal physiological conditions was studied using the box-counting method. The fractal dimension is a numeric value that quantifies to measure how rough the signal is from nonlinear dynamics, rather than its amplitude or other linear ...
