An Approximated Box Height for Differential-Box-Counting Method to Estimate Fractal Dimensions of Gray-Scale Images

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
The Fractal Dimension (FD) of an image defines the roughness using a real number which is highly associated with the human perception of surface roughness.

MaskID: An effective deep-learning-based algorithm for dense rebar counting.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
As a dense instance segmentation problem, rebar counting in a complex environment such as rebar yard and rebar transpotation has received significant attention in both academic and industrial contexts.

Estimation of Citarum Watershed Boundary’s Length Based on Fractal’s Power Law by the Modified Box-Counting Dimension Algorithm

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
This research aimed to estimate the length of the Citarum watershed boundary because the data are still unknown. We used the concept of fractal’s power law and its relation to the length of an object, which is still not described in other research.

A High-Throughput Imagery Protocol to Predict Functionality upon Fractality of Carbon-Capturing Biointerfaces

open access: yesAgronomy, 2022
Surface quality is key for any adsorbent to have an effective adsorption. Because analyzing an adsorbent can be costly, we established an imagery protocol to determine adsorption robustly yet simply. To validate our hypothesis of whether stereomicroscopy,

Computing Fractal Dimension Of Signals Using Multiresolution Box-Counting Method

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper, we have developed a method to compute fractal dimension (FD) of discrete time signals, in the time domain, by modifying the box-counting method. The size of the box is dependent on the sampling frequency of the signal. The number of boxes required to completely cover the signal are obtained at multiple time resolutions.

Multilayered Complexity Analysis in Architectural Design: Two Measurement Methods Evaluating Self-Similarity and Complexity

open access: yesFractal and Fractional, 2021
This article contributes to clarifying the questions of whether and how fractal geometry, i.e., some of its main properties, are suitable to characterize architectural designs.

Improving rolling bearing online fault diagnostic performance based on multi-dimensional characteristics [PDF]

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2018
As the main cause of failure and damage to rotating machinery, rolling bearing failure can result in huge economic losses. As the rolling bearing vibration signal is nonlinear and has non-stationary characteristics, the health status information ...

Fractal dimension does not adequately describe the complexity of leaf margin in seedlings of Quercus species

open access: yesAnales del Jardín Botánico de Madrid, 2002
We quantified the complexity of leaf margin in a set of Quercus tree species using fractal dimension estimated by the box-counting method (FDb). Leaves were sampled from seedlings in a set of 15 Quercus species with a wide range of leaf morphology (Q ...

Prediction of Fractal Dimension in Shale CT and its Robustness to Interference Based on Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesTaiyuan Ligong Daxue xuebao
[Purposes] The development of shale oil and gas often requires a thorough understanding of the internal pore-fracture distribution patterns within shale reservoirs to optimize development strategies and enhance production capacity.
