Photocatalytic Reduction of Nitroaromatic Compounds Using NiO‐Modified MgAl Hydrotalcite: A Sustainable Approach for Wastewater Treatment

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The growing industrialization has caused the generation of highly toxic compounds such as nitroaromatic compounds. An adequate treatment to reduce the contamination of these organic compounds is necessary. The photocatalytic reduction of aromatic compounds using semiconductor materials favors the production of nitroaromatics.

Biosynthesis and Characterization of Melanin Extracted From Solanum tuberosum and Mucuna deeringiana

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
A growing interest in finding accessible and low‐cost sources of melanin has emerged due to its wide range of applications. This work demonstrated the use of Mucuna deeringiana as a source of L‐DOPA, and Solanum tuberosum of tyrosinase in eumelanin biosynthesis.

Mδ+ Species as a Descriptor of Catalytic Activity and Selectivity in Levulinic Acid Hydrogenation Over Au, Rh, and Ir/TiO2

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
γ‐Valerolactone (GVL) is a derivative of lignocellulosic biomass, which has been identified as a key sustainable platform molecule for the production of renewable fuels and fine chemicals. The presence of Mδ+ species resulting from the metal–support interactions can serve as a descriptor of the activity and selectivity in this hydrogenation reaction ...

The Diamesinae (Diptera: Chironomidae) in High‐Altitude Andean Streams Using Morphological and Molecular Approaches

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 12, December 2025.
Diamesinae is one of the 11 subfamilies of Chironomidae, characterized by its preference for cold waters, typically found in mountainous regions. For the genus Limaya, two OTUs were identified using all methods, one for Ecuador and one for Peru. Seven OTUs were identified for the genus Paraheptagyia.

Global variation in honey bee (Apis mellifera) mating flight times

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Zoology, Volume 52, Issue 5, Page 830-843, December 2025.
ABSTRACT During the mating season, male (drone) honey bees (Apis mellifera L.) make daily flights to drone congregation areas (DCAs) for the purpose of mating with a virgin queen. The timing of these flights (drone flight period) varies between geographic regions. However, the spatial scale over which variation occurs and the mechanisms contributing to

Microwave‐Assisted One‐Pot Synthesis of Alkyl Levulinates From Post‐Harvest Vegetable Waste

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, Volume 9, Issue 9, September 2025.
Vegetable waste is valorized through Soxhlet extraction using H₂O₂ and heteropolyacid (HPA), followed by material characterization (XRD, FTIR, TGA, DSC). A microwave‐assisted reaction at 170 °C for 30 min with HPA and alcohol yields bio‐based esters.

Origins and Diversification of the Caatinga Dry Forest Endemic Avifauna

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 52, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Understanding the geographic origin of lineages is critical to comprehending their biogeographical and evolutionary histories and the historical connections among biomes. In northeastern Brazil, the Caatinga dry forest represents the largest and most biologically diverse patch of Seasonally Dry Tropical Forest in the Neotropics.
