Mowing and lowering the marandu palisadegrass sward height at late winter improve the sward structure

open access: yesBioscience Journal, 2020
The structure of the sward is important because it influences the responses of plants and animals in grazing conditions. The objective with this work was to evaluate the structural characteristics of the Marandu palisade grass pasture (Brachiaria ...

Effects of eucalyptus thinning on soil chemical attributes in an unfertilized silvopastoral system 6 years after thinning

open access: yesSoil Science Society of America Journal, Volume 90, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
Abstract Tree thinning is a common practice in silvopastoral systems, but there is no standard percentage of thinning used by farmers. Moreover, it is unclear how the percentage of thinning affects soil chemical attributes throughout the soil profile and throughout the transect between eucalyptus lines.

Germination of tropical forage seeds stored for six years in ambient and controlled temperature and humidity conditions in Thailand

open access: yesTropical Grasslands-Forrajes Tropicales, 2018
The germination performances of fresh seed lots were determined for 5 tropical forage species: Mulato II hybrid brachiaria [Urochloa ruziziensis (syn. Brachiaria ruziziensis) x U. decumbens (syn. B. decumbens) x U. brizantha (syn. B. brizantha)], Mombasa

Plant Growth‐Promoting Rhizobacteria Impacting Forage Mass of Urochloa ruziziensis and Megathyrsus maximus: A Reliable New Strategy for Tropical Pastures

open access: yesGrass and Forage Science, Volume 81, Issue 1, January-March 2026.
ABSTRACT Brazil is known for its extensive livestock production in pastures, supporting the world's second‐largest herd of cattle and being the leading beef exporter. However, livestock farming in Brazil has frequently been associated with soil degradation and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The morphogenesis of marandu palisadegrass at fixed or variable heights in different seasons of the year

open access: yesBioscience Journal, 2020
Height variations in a sward over the year may be efficient for increasing plant growth, compared with maintenance of the sward at a constant height. Thus, this experiment was conducted from February 2013 to May 2014 to characterise the development of ...

Late Stages of Tropical Silvopastoral System: An Opportunity to Maximise Forage and Animal Production

open access: yesGrass and Forage Science, Volume 80, Issue 3, July-September 2025.
ABSTRACT Silvopastoral systems (SPS) integrate pasture, trees, and animals in the same area and are alternatives for sustainable pasture intensification. We aimed to test whether, in the late stages of an SPS, with large but sparsely distributed trees (83 trees ha−1), forage and animal productivity are comparable to a full sun pasture (FS) over an ...

Survival and injuries of Deois flavopicta (Stal., 1854) in pastures under seed treatment with insecticides and dry mass yield

open access: yesArquivos do Instituto Biológico, 2018
: The present study evaluated the survival and injuries of Deois flavopicta (Hemiptera: Cercopidae) in pastures of Urochloa (Syn. Brachiaria) decumbens and U. brizantha, submitted to seed treatment with fipronil (Amulet®) and thiamethoxam (Cruiser 350 FS®

Soil organic carbon increase on conversion of native savanna to improved pasture in two regions of Colombia

open access: yesGrassland Research, Volume 3, Issue 4, Page 318-330, December 2024.
Our study revealed how landscape transformation from native savanna to improved pastures increases soil organic carbon (SOC) in two regions of Colombia. The results show a significant change in SOC to along profile (0–60 cm), influenced by factors such as grass type, geographic conditions, and soil texture.
