Experimental Brachiaria decumbens toxicity in cattle

Veterinary Research Communications, 1989
Although Brachiaria decumbens was not toxic when fed to cattle, the infusion of rumen liquor from B. decumbens intoxicated sheep into the rumen of cattle produced evidence suggesting hepatic and renal dysfunction. Several biochemical changes were observed including increases in serum aspartate amino transferase, serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen

Chelate-induced phytoextraction of metal polluted soils with Brachiaria decumbens

Chemosphere, 2006
Chelate-induced phytoextraction with high biomass plant species has been proposed for the clean-up of heavy metal polluted soils. In the current work, the effect of the application of two different chelating agents, i.e. EDTA and EDDS, on the metal phytoextraction capacity of Brachiaria decumbens was studied.

Organic acid root-tip tissue-concentration in Brachiaria decumbens and Brachiaria ruziziensis

2001
Brachiaria decumbens and Brachiaria ruziziensis are used as fodder crops in central and south America. Both species are very resistant to aluminium (Al) toxicity, Brachiaria decumbens being completely unaffected by 200 μM Al treatment, while the less resistant Brachiaria ruziziensis shows approximately 50% decrease in root elongation at 200 μM Al. Both

Photosensitisation and crystal‐associated cholangiohepatopathy in sheep grazing Brachiaria decumbens

Australian Veterinary Journal, 1991
SUMMARY Two outbreaks of photosensitivity and jaundice in sheep grazing the grass, Brachiaria decumbens, in West Java in 1983 and 1990 are described. Aggregates of acicular clefts and crystals were present in bile canaliculi, bile ducts, Kupffer cells, hepatocytes and in kidney tubules.

Potassium distribution and use efficiency in Brachiaria decumbens

2001
A greenhouse hydroponic experiment was carried out with the forage Brachiaria decumbens Stapf. to study the effects of potassium supply on potassium distribution in the plant shoots and the potassium use efficiency. A nutrient solution experiment with eight potassium rates (0, 9.75, 39, 78, 156, 234, 312 and 468 mg L−1) was conducted in a complete ...
