Potassium nitrate on overcoming dormancy in Brachiaria humidicola ‘BRS Tupi’ seeds [PDF]

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2017
ABSTRACT: In this study, the aim was to determine the influence of potassium nitrate, using different concentrations and immersion times on the dormancy of the seeds of Brachiaria humidicola cv. ‘BRS Tupi’. Four experiments were performed adopting a factorial scheme (5x3+1) in different seed lots, for different post-harvest storage durations, during ...

Evaluation of Soil Physicochemical Properties Under Different Soil Conservation Techniques Across Slope Gradients in Northwestern Ethiopia

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Soil Science, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Soil degradation, marked by erosion, nutrient depletion, and organic matter loss, is a significant challenge to agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability globally. Soil and water conservation (SWC) practices are essential in reducing soil erosion and preserving soil health.

Nutritional quality of Stenotaphrum secundatum and Brachiaria humidicola for goats

open access: yesJurnal Ilmu Ternak dan Veteriner, 2012
The study was aimed to evaluate several nutritional quality parameters (chemical composition, intake and digestibility) in goats of S. secundatum and B. humidicola known to be highly and moderately shade tolerant species. The species of Pennisetum purpureuphoides was used as a control diet.

High rhizospheric ammonium levels in Sorghum halepense (johnsongrass) suggests nitrification inhibition potential

open access: yesAgricultural &Environmental Letters, Volume 9, Issue 2, December 2024.
Sorghum halepense (johnsongrass) has the ability to retain high rhizospheric ammonium. This suggests potential nitrification inhibition capability of johnsongrass. Under resource competition on the roadsides, johnsongrass might have undergone adaptive evolution to retain more ammonium than in croplands, which are fertilized periodically with nutrients,

Soil organic carbon increase on conversion of native savanna to improved pasture in two regions of Colombia

open access: yesGrassland Research, Volume 3, Issue 4, Page 318-330, December 2024.
Our study revealed how landscape transformation from native savanna to improved pastures increases soil organic carbon (SOC) in two regions of Colombia. The results show a significant change in SOC to along profile (0–60 cm), influenced by factors such as grass type, geographic conditions, and soil texture.

Soil nitrogen dynamics after Brachiaria desiccation

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ciência do Solo, 2013
Brachiaria species, particularly B. humidicola, can synthesize and release compounds from their roots that inhibit nitrification, which can lead to changes in soil nitrogen (N) dynamics, mainly in N-poor soils.
