An in situ shelly fauna from the lower Paleozoic Zapla diamictite of northwestern Argentina: implications for the age of glacial events across Gondwana [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A shelly fauna from the upper part of the Zapla glacial diamictite includes thelingulate brachiopod Orbiculoidea radiata Troedsson, the rhynchonelliforms Dalmanella cf. testudinaria (Dalman) and Paromalomena sp., the bivalve Modiolopsis?

Subterranean environments contribute to three‐quarters of classified ecosystem services

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 3, Page 1582-1605, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Beneath the Earth's surface lies a network of interconnected caves, voids, and systems of fissures forming in rocks of sedimentary, igneous, or metamorphic origin. Although largely inaccessible to humans, this hidden realm supports and regulates services critical to ecological health and human well‐being.

Mesozoic brachiopods of Mexico -a review and some comments on their paleobiogeographic affinities and paleoecology

open access: yesRevista Mexicana de Ciencias Geológicas, 2019
Recent work on the taxonomy and paleobiogeographic affinities of Mesozoic brachiopods from Mexico is reviewed. Brachiopods are lesser components of Mesozoic marine fossil assemblages from Mexico but are abundant at certain horizons… in order to continue,

Effect of the Mid-Carboniferous event on the diversity of brachiopods in the Middle and Southern Urals

open access: yesЛитосфера, 2020
Research subject. In this study, the distribution of brachiopods in the Mid-Carboniferous boundary (MCB) sediments in the Middle and Southern Urals was investigated with the aim of determining the influence of the global Serpukhovian-Bashkirian minor ...

Brachiopods of the Imtachan Formation in the Upper Permian of the Southern Verkhoyanie, Northeast Russia

open access: yesУчёные записки Казанского университета: Серия Естественные науки, 2023
An extensive collection of fossil brachiopods, all assigned to the Wuchiapingian Stage, was recovered from the lower part of the Imtachan Formation along the Ustupnyi Creek (right tributary of the Setorym River) in the Southern Verkhoyanie.

ParaHox Genes Revisited: From Gut Patterning to Integrated Axial and Neural Organization in Rotifera

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, Volume 346, Issue 4, Page 357-369, June 2026.
In rotifers, ParaHox genes show a dispersed genomic organization, with Xlox absent across gnathiferans. Exclusive neuronal expression of Gsx and Cdx reveals that ancestral ParaHox genes coordinated neural and epithelial development beyond gut patterning, suggesting an integrated role in early bilaterian body plan organization.

Optimizing electron backscatter diffraction of carbonate biominerals—resin type and carbon coating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) is becoming a widely used technique to determine crystallographic orientation in biogenic carbonates. Despite this use, there is little information available on preparation for the analysis of biogenic carbonates ...

“Flames Over Persepolis”: New Scientific Evidence Supporting Historical Perspectives

open access: yesArchaeometry, Volume 68, Issue 3, Page 421-433, June 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the burning of Persepolis Terrace, historically attributed to Alexander III in 330 bce. A review of classical accounts and excavation reports, combined with diagnostic surveys, confirms the fire's historicity and provides novel insights.

UPPER SPATHIAN TO BITHYNIAN (LOWER TO MIDDLE TRIASSIC) BRACHIOPODS FROM NORTH DOBROGEA (ROMANIA)

open access: yesRivista Italiana di Paleontologia e Stratigrafia, 2018
Brachiopods obtained from several Triassic localities in North Dobrogea, in Romania, are described. Upper Spathian and Aegean Hallstatt-type red limestones have been sampled in the Deşli Caira section, proposed as the GSSP for the base of the Anisian ...
