Dynamic Cranioplasty for Brachycephaly
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1996In craniofacial surgery, the most common techniques for treatment of brachycephaly have been either to let the forehead float on the brain or to fix it in an advanced position. Since neither of these techniques renders acceptable results with enough consistency, we have developed a different way of addressing the problem.

Background Premature fusion of both coronal sutures (anterior brachycephaly) alters skull shape and potentially affects intracranial volume (ICV). Currently little is known about preoperative ICV in anterior brachycephaly.

Craniosynostosis (CS), the premature fusion of 1 or more cranial sutures, can present with coexisting deformation plagiocephaly or brachiocephaly. While surgical correction is the standard for CS, the management of cases with concurrent positional head ...

Quantitative assessment of deformational plagiocephaly and brachycephaly at the point-of-care
Medical Imaging, 2021Purpose: to develop and validate algorithms that enable a novice user to quantitatively measure the head shape parameters associated with deformational plagiocephaly, and brachycephaly (DPB) using a smartphone or tablet.

Positional plagiocephaly/brachycephaly (PPB) is associated with undesirable head shapes, developmental delays, and social issues. This study compares parent reports of developmental outcomes for school-aged children 4–10 years old with PPB ...

Safe Sleep, Plagiocephaly, and Brachycephaly: Assessment, Risks, Treatment, and When to Refer.
Pediatric annals, 2020The Safe to Sleep campaign started in 1994, reducing the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) by 40% to 60%. However, an undesirable consequence has been a 400% to 600% increase in positional head deformities.

Nonsynostotic Posterior Brachycephaly with Hindbrain Herniation
World Neurosurgery, 2017Positional plagiocephaly is the most common cause of cranial asymmetry. The underlying cause of Chiari-1 malformation has many possible theories, and anecdotally some pediatric neurosurgeons have had experience of severe cases of positional brachycephaly with Chiari-1.

Brachycephaly and External Pressure
Journal Of Craniofacial Surgery, 2000Browsing through some literatures, I happened to find out some records on the rite of imitation of the child's head to brachycephaly. In 1976, two skulls showing extraordinary forms were excavated out of an ancient tomb at Yean village of Daedong township in Kimhae County in Kyungnam Province, the Republic of Korea.

Deformational brachycephaly in supine-sleeping infants
The Journal of Pediatrics, 2005Medical dictionaries and anthropologic sources define brachycephaly as a cranial index (CI = width divided by length x 100%) greater than 81%. We examine the impact of supine sleeping on CI and compare orthotic treatment with repositioning. We compared the effect of repositioning versus helmet therapy on CI in 193 infants referred for abnormal head ...
