Allometric constraints and variables of reproductive effort in brachyuran crabs

Marine Biology, 1982
Allometric relationships of reproductive output were compared in 20 species from 7 families of brachyuran crabs from the east and west coasts of North America, using regression analysis of log reproductive parameters versus log body weight. Comparisons of crabs spanning 4 orders of magnitude in body weight indicated that female body size was the ...

Value of indicators for assessing recent mating in brachyuran crabs

Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 2005
Methods for assessing the occurrence and recency of mating are important for the management and conservation of exploited brachyuran crabs. Using multiparous females of the snow crab Chionoecetes opilio, we evaluated by experiment the efficacy of three indicators of recent mating: a white deposit in the spermathecae, extended mate-guarding, and fresh ...

Evolutionary and Zoogeographical Remarks on the Mediterranean Fauna of Brachyuran Crabs

1985
The crab fauna of the Mediterranean Sea appears to be the best-known in the world (Manning, 1981). Manning and Holthuis (1981) report more than 120 species from the Mediterranean, which means that about 40% of the East Atlantic known species are represented there.

Brachyuran crabs from Iskenderun Bay (Southeastern Turkey)

2019
Research surveys were conducted monthly between July 2002 and June 2003 along the coast of Iskenderun Bay. A total of 1746 crabs were captured at 6 localities in depths of 4 to 50 m. Twenty different species were identified. Among these, Atergatis roseus (Rüppell, 1830), Charybdis helleri (A. Milne-Edwards, 1867), Charybdis longicollis Leene, 1938, Ixa
