The Poisson bracket on free null initial data for gravity

open access: yes, 2009
Free initial data for general relativity on a pair of intersecting null hypersurfaces are well known, but the lack of a Poisson bracket and concerns about caustics have stymied the development of a constraint free canonical theory. Here it is pointed out

From Mechanics to Electronics: Influence of ALD Interlayers on the Multiaxial Electro‐Mechanical Behavior of Metal–Oxide Bilayers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ultrathin AlOxHy interlayers between aluminum films and polymer substrates significantly improve electro‐mechanical properties of flexible thin film systems. By precisely controlling interlayer thickness using atomic layer deposition, this study identifies an optimal interlayer thickness of 5–10 nm that enhances ductility and delays cracking.

Imaging of Biphoton States: Fundamentals and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Quantum states of two photons exhibit a rich polarization and spatial structure, which provides a fundamental resource of strongly correlated and entangled states. This review analyzes the physics of these intriguing properties and explores the various techniques and technologies available to measure them, including the state of the art of their ...

A Note on the Symplectic Structure on the Dressing Group in the sinh--Gordon Model

open access: yes, 1996
We analyze the symplectic structure on the dressing group in the \shG\, model by calculating explicitly the Poisson bracket $\{g\x g\}$ where $g$ is the \dg\, element which creates a generic one soliton solution from the vacuum.

Nanothermometry in Living Cells: Physical Limits, Conceptual and Material Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Heat and temperature are fundamental to life. When nanothermometers began probing regions as small as a living cell, they triggered controversial claims of large intracellular temperature gradients. We review physical constraints energy‐conservation, entropy production, thermodynamic fluctuations, and molecular dynamics.
