Bracketing paradoxes without brackets

Lingua, 1991
Abstract The present study examines the phenomenon of bracketing paradoxes in morphology. Unlike previous studies, we argue that morphological structure is autosegmental and therefore that there is no bracketing; under such a view, one can say that the entire concept of bracketing paradoxes has been misinterpreted in previous studies.

R-Brackets and r-Brackets

2013
An R-matrix or an r-matrix is an additional structure on a Lie algebra, which yields a new Lie bracket on the Lie algebra or on its dual, hence leading to a Poisson structure on the dual Lie algebra or on the Lie algebra itself (in that order). Both constructions are discussed, as well as their relation when \(\mathfrak{g}\) is a quadratic Lie algebra,

Schouten–Nijenhuis brackets

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1997
The Poisson and graded Poisson Schouten–Nijenhuis algebras of symmetric and antisymmetric contravariant tensor fields, respectively, on an n-dimensional manifold M are shown to be n-symplectic. This is accomplished by showing that both brackets may be defined in a unified way using the n-symplectic structure on the bundle of linear frames LM of M.

Bandless orthodontic bracket

The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1967
The bandless M bracket protects adhesives that attach orthodontic brackets directly to teeth. Without the M bracket, tested adhesives encountered moisture and integrity of bond was not maintained.

Bracket

2012
The present invention concerns a bracket (1) having a body (2 A) that defines a base (2); a slot (5) formed in said body and designed to accommodate an orthodontic archwire (4), a plurality of wings (3) formed in said body; a plurality of seats (12, 12') formed on one or more of said plurality of wings, each seat defining a bottom (13, 13') and at ...

On Kauffman Brackets

Journal of Knot Theory and Its Ramifications, 1997
An antichain is associated to each link diagram so that the highest degree of the Kauffman bracket can be determined. As an application, we show that the span of the Kauffman bracket is less than or equal to 4(n - m) for dealternator connected m-alternating diagrams and the upper bound is best possible.

Tying twin brackets

American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 2000
To achieve orthodontic tooth movement, archwires must be tied to the bracket slots. Metal or elastic ligatures are used for this purpose, and the way they are tied affects tooth movement. Because of their design, twin brackets can be tied in a large variety of ways.

Brackets

Abstract Brackets can add clarity and simplicity because they help writers avoid shoving an ill-fitting quote into their writing. All the justices use brackets when part of a quote doesn’t quite work, making these sharp parenthetical marks a key part of the legal writer’s toolkit.
