Amino Acid‐Enriched Phosphorus Fertilizer Enhances Maize Yield, Phosphorus Uptake, and Phosphorus Use Efficiency

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, Volume 15, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
ABSTRACT The development of enhanced fertilizers using amino acid‐based biostimulants can help improve fertilizer use efficiency and reduce environmental emissions. However, in the context of phosphorus (P) risk management, the potential physiological mechanisms by which amino acid enhanced P fertilizers affect maize yield and P use efficiency (PUE ...

Effects of Blanching on Phytochemical Retention, Antioxidant Capacity, and Microstructure of Banana Flower (Musa spp., Musaceae)

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
Hot‐water blanching (100°C, 1–5 min), citric acid treatment (1%–5% w/v in water), and microwave blanching (720 W, 30–40 s) were employed to modify the bioactive compounds of banana flowers. Microwave blanching for 40 s yielded the highest amounts of total phenolics (7.60 mg GAE/g), total flavonoids (4.90 mg QE/g), and antioxidant activity.

Genome-Wide Identification of the MYB Gene Family in Bougainvillea and Silencing-Based Evidence for the Involvement of BbMYB6 and BbMYB69 in Yellow and Red Bract Coloration

open access: yesHorticulturae
MYB transcription factors (TFs) serve pivotal regulatory functions in plant pigmentation; however, the composition of the MYB family in Bougainvillea spp. and the regulatory mechanisms underlying bract coloration have not yet been systematically examined.

Quality‐driven reformulation of Plantago ovata enriched non‐fermented beef salami

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 12, Page 7245-7256, September 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Plantago ovata (psyllium) is a hydrocolloid additive that is used widely in foods; however, meat applications of this bioactive ingredient are limited. This study evaluated the effects of 0% to 5% Plantago husk on non‐fermented beef salami during 60 days of storage. Proximate composition, physicochemical properties, texture profile,

Straw Return Combined With Nitrogen Fertilizer Application Improve Nitrogen Utilization Efficiency by Regulating Soil Physical and Chemical Properties in Spring Maize

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, Volume 37, Issue 15, Page 11142-11158, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Straw return (SR) and controlled‐release nitrogen fertilizers application can improve soil structure, enhance soil water retention, and promote crop growth. However, the mechanisms through which SR and controlled‐release nitrogen fertilizers application jointly modulate soil physical and chemical properties remain unclear.

The bracts oft he alpine ‚glasshouse’ plant Rheum alexandrae (Polygonaceae) enhance reproductive fitness of ist pollinating seed-consuming mutualist

open access: yes, 2015
Environmental conditions are known to affect the reproductive fitness of insects, as do host plants. Although the highly specialized bracts of Himalayan ‘glasshouse’ plants are thought to be an adaptive morphology that allows the plant to reproduce in ...

Additions to the Acanthaceae of the Flora of Tropical East Africa: two new species from northern Kenya

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2026, Issue 9, September 2026.
The new species Barleria kulalensis I.Darbysh. & Q.Luke and Dicliptera huriensis I.Darbysh. & Q.Luke are described and illustrated and their extinction risk is assessed provisionally. The former is based on Barleria sp. G of the Flora of Tropical East Africa (FTEA), with recent field observation and collection of this species from the foothills of ...
