The Use of the Braden Scale in Assessing Pressure Ulcers in Turkey

Advances in Skin & Wound Care, 2015
The goal of this systematic review was to reach scientific generalizations regarding the assessment of risk for pressure ulcers based on the results of previous studies that made use of the Braden Scale. This research was performed by using a retrospective screening of studies relevant to the subject.

Additional Value of Augmenting Current Subscales in Braden Scale with Advanced Machine Learning Technique for Pressure Injury Risk Assessment

IEEE International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedicine, 2020
Hospital-acquired pressure injuries (PI) are associated with longer hospital stays, pain, infection, and higher care costs. The traditional assessment techniques such as Braden scale, the most widely used PI risk assessment tool, lack predictive power ...

An interrater reliability study of the Braden scale in two nursing homes

International Journal of Nursing Studies, 2008
Adequate risk assessment is essential in pressure ulcer prevention. Assessment scales were designed to support practitioners in identifying persons at pressure ulcer risk. The Braden scale is one of the most extensively studied risk assessment instruments, although the majority of studies focused on validity rather than reliability. The first aim was to

The prognostic value of the Braden scale on all-cause death in older patients with heart failure in the intensive care unit: a cohort study.

European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing
BACKGROUND Heart failure(HF) remains a major global health challenge associated with high mortality rates. The Braden scale score(BSS) is one of the most commonly used clinical tools to assess a patient's risk of pressure injury, and some studies have ...

Calibration power of the Braden scale in predicting pressure ulcer development

Journal of Wound Care, 2016
Objective:Calibration is the degree of correspondence between the estimated probability produced by a model and the actual observed probability. The aim of this study was to investigate the calibration power of the Braden scale in predicting pressure ulcer development (PU).Method:A retrospective analysis was performed among consecutive patients in 2013.

Predictive Validity of the Braden Scale Among Black and White Subjects

Nursing Research, 2002
The Braden Scale for Predicting Pressure Sore Risk (Braden Scale) has been tested for predictive validity, but the cut-off scores for Blacks has not been compared to White populations. The purpose of this brief report is to determine if the Braden Scale predicts pressure ulcer risk similarly for Blacks and Whites.A multisite study of the predictive ...

Interpreting interrater reliability coefficients of the Braden scale: A discussion paper

International Journal of Nursing Studies, 2008
There are many studies investigating psychometric properties of the Braden scale, a scale that predicts the risk for pressure ulcers. The main focus of these studies is validity as opposed to reliability. In order to estimate the degree of interrater reliability a literature review revealed that numerous statistical approaches and coefficients were ...

Braden Scale and Norton Scale Modified by INSALUD in an Acute Care Hospital

Advances in Skin & Wound Care, 2014
The objective of this article was to determine the most suitable cutoff point (CP) for the Braden Scale and Norton Modified Scale by INSALUD Scale (Norton-MI) in an acute care hospital. The authors have designed a prospective, descriptive study of patients from their hospital.

Factors affecting the predictive validity of the Braden Scale.

Advances in wound care : the journal for prevention and healing, 1997
This descriptive correlational study explored the predictive validity of the Braden Scale and factors affecting it A Braden score was determined within 4 hours of admission for 50 adult medical/surgical inpatients. Independent skin assessments were made three times a week and at discharge. Fourteen patients (28%) developed pressure ulcers.
