Electrically Pumped, Edge-Emitting, Large-Area Photonic Crystal Lasers with Straight and Angled Facets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We propose and demonstrate electrically pumped, edge-emitting, large-area photonic crystal lasers. Effective index-guided and Bragg-guided lasing modes are obtained depending on the design of photonic crystal and ...

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

Non-additivity in laser-illuminated many-atom systems

open access: yes, 2014
We show that atoms subject to laser radiation may form a non-additive many-body system on account of their long-range forces, when the atoms are trapped in the vicinity of a fiber with a Bragg grating.

Synchrotron Radiation for Quantum Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Materials and interfaces underpin quantum technologies, with synchrotron and FEL methods key to understanding and optimizing them. Advances span superconducting and semiconducting qubits, 2D materials, and topological systems, where strain, defects, and interfaces govern performance.

Crystallography beyond the Bragg Peaks

open access: yesCHIMIA, 2014
Diffuse scattering contains information on the real structure of disordered crystals that cannot be deduced from conventional structure analysis based on Bragg reflections. In this article the historical development, current state-of-the-art and

Stimulation and Enhancement of Near‐Band‐Edge Emission in Zinc Oxide by Distributed Bragg Reflectors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, 2022
The free exciton transition (near‐band‐edge emission, NBE) of ZnO at ≈388 nm can be strongly enhanced and even stimulated by an underlying photonic structure. 1D Photonic crystals, so‐called distributed Bragg reflectors, are utilized to suppress the deep‐

Atomic Size Misfit for Electrocatalytic Small Molecule Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores the application and mechanisms of atomic size misfit in catalysis for small molecule activation, focusing on how structural defects and electronic properties can effectively lower the energy barriers of chemical bonds in molecules like H2O, CO2, and N2.

Long range magnetic ordering in Na$_2$IrO$_3$

open access: yes, 2011
We report a combined experimental and theoretical investigation of the magnetic structure of the honeycomb lattice magnet Na$_2$IrO$_3$, a strong candidate for a realization of a gapless spin-liquid.
