Automatic detection and segmentation of brain lesions from 3D MR and CT images [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Includes bibliographical references. The detection and segmentation of brain pathologies in medical images is a vital step which helps radiologists to diagnose a variety of brain abnormalities and set up a suitable treatment.

The heterodimeric amino acid transporters (HAT) of the SLC7/SLC3 family: A structure−function relationships and relevance to human pathology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heterodimeric amino acid transporters consist of SLC7 and SLC3 family proteins arranged in a conserved structural organization. They regulate nutrient transport across cell membranes, supporting essential cellular functions. These transporters also contribute to xenobiotic/drug uptake and distribution.

Domain-specific schema reuse supports flexible learning to learn in the primate brain

open access: yesNature Communications
Prior knowledge accelerates subsequent learning of similarly structured problems – a phenomenon termed learning to learn – by forming generalizable neural representations called neural correlates of schema (NCS).

Toward Morphologic Atlasing of the Human Whole Brain at the Nanoscale

open access: yesBig Data and Cognitive Computing, 2023
Although no dataset at the nanoscale for the entire human brain has yet been acquired and neither a nanoscale human whole brain atlas has been constructed, tremendous progress in neuroimaging and high-performance computing makes them feasible in the non ...

APOBEC3 activity and DNA polymerase‐ε deficiency are associated with distinct IDH1 R132 hotspot mutations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) mutations are highly recurrent in multiple human cancer types, including cholangiocarcinoma and glioma. IDH1 R132C is the most common IDH1 mutation in cholangiocarcinoma and likely arises from APOBEC3A‐ or APOBEC3B‐mediated deamination.

Avidin is evolutionarily conserved in fish but dispensable for development and resistance against Streptococcus agalactiae in zebrafish

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The presence of biotin‐binding avidin proteins in fish and their biological significance are poorly characterized. We cataloged fish avidins and demonstrate that they are widely present and evolutionarily conserved. We created avd knockout zebrafish and show that zebavidin is dispensable for development and that resistance of avd knockout embryos in ...

Hand position fields of neurons in the premotor cortex of macaques during natural reaching

open access: yesNature Communications
While hippocampus represents spatial information through place cells for body navigation, whether motor areas employ a similar framework to guide hand reaching remains unknown. Here, we investigate tuning properties in dorsal premotor cortex (PMd) during

Memory and Resting‐State Connectivity in Acute Transient Global Amnesia: A Case–Control fMRI Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a striking model of isolated amnesia. While hippocampal lesions are well described, the network‐level mechanisms and the precise neuropsychological profile remain debated. Our objective was thus to characterize functional and neuropsychological correlates of acute TGA and their ...

LFP-LOC: an LFP power–based method for validating the anatomical placement of high-density neural probes in rodents

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience
High-density CMOS-based neural probes provide unprecedented spatiotemporal resolution for in-vivo electrophysiology, yet accurate validation of implant position remains challenging.
