Neurovascular Disorders in Pregnancy: Prevalence, Clinical Assessment and Management—A Review of the Literature

open access: yesThe Obstetrician &Gynaecologist, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Key Content Neurovascular conditions in pregnancy are rare but are associated with poor maternal and fetal outcomes. This review covers the prevalence, clinical presentation, diagnosis and management of neurovascular disorders in pregnancy. Acute pain transfusion reaction in a patient with thalassemia: In‐depth characterization of short‐ and long‐term phenotypes

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Acute pain transfusion reaction (APTR) is a rare, under‐recognized condition of unknown etiology. It can cause significant distress in recipients, necessitating symptomatic management and, occasionally, hospitalization. Study Design and Methods Here, we present an APTR event in an adult subject with transfusion‐dependent thalassemia

An eye on long‐duration spaceflight: Controversies, countermeasures and challenges

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Space flight‐associated neuroocular syndrome (SANS) is a consequence of long‐duration space flight and is detected in two‐thirds of astronauts. In‐flight, this can cause a change in the refraction of the eyes, requiring graded hypermetropic ‘superfocus adjustable’ glasses, optic nerve head oedema and choroidal folds.

Confined spaces in space: Cerebral implications of chronic elevations of inspired carbon dioxide and implications for long‐duration space travel

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Cerebrovascular regulation is critically dependent upon the arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2${P_{{\mathrm{aC}}{{\mathrm{O}}_{\mathrm{2}}}}}$), owing to its effect on cerebral blood flow, tissue PCO2${P_{{\mathrm{C}}{{\mathrm{O}}_{\mathrm{2}}}}}$, tissue proton concentration, cerebral metabolism and cognitive and neuronal ...

Role of RIPK1/RIPK3/MLKL signalling pathway in sepsis‐associated acute kidney injury

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Sepsis‐associated acute kidney injury (SA‐AKI) is a common clinical syndrome in critically ill patients, and its high mortality rate is closely related to complex pathological mechanisms. Existing studies have shown that the pathophysiological process of SA‐AKI involves complex multi‐mechanism interactions, including an uncontrolled systemic ...
