VEHICLE BRAKE SYSTEM COMPRISING A SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM AND A PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM
2003The invention relates to a vehicle brake system comprising and formed by a service brake system and a parking brake system. The service brake system can be actuated by the driver by means of an operating device, an operating brake pedal. Displacement members are delivered to the service brake when the service brake is actuated such that a braking ...

The braking system discussed in this paper focuses on a mechatronics-based system, which is able to detect obstacle in front of the vehicle. The drawbacks found in conventional system can be removed using mechatronics approach. Humans using the vehicle may not be able to assess the situation at which brake is to be applied.

A moving vehicle must be able to be brought quickly to rest by its brakes. Most cars have two braking systems; one which works on all four wheels and is operated by a foot pedal; and one which operates on the rear wheels only and is operated by a hand lever; this is the parking brake (or handbrake).
