Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Functional Connectivity Linked to Cognitive Recovery After Minor Stroke

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Patients with minor stroke exhibit slowed processing speed and generalized alterations in functional connectivity involving frontoparietal cortex (FPC). The pattern of connectivity evolves over time. In this study, we examine the relationship of functional connectivity patterns to cognitive performance, to determine ...

Mse-Optimal 1-Bit Precoding for Multiuser Mimo Via Branch and Bound [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2018
In this paper, we solve the sum mean-squared error (MSE)-optimal 1-bit quantized precoding problem exactly for small-to-moderate sized multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) systems via branch and bound.

Evidence of Iron Accumulation in Cerebral Adrenoleukodystrophy: A Potential Novel Disease Mechanism

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this first application of Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping Source Separation to cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy, we uncovered alterations in iron and myelin within lesions and normal appearing white matter. As validation, we demonstrate abnormal iron accumulation in those same compartments within primary brain tissue.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Parametric branch and bound

open access: yesOmega, 1978
Abstract The paper describes a procedure for mixed integer programming that allows branches to be imposed ‘by degrees’, which can subsequently be revised or weeded out according to their relative influence. It is an adaptive approach in which the branch and bound tree can be manipulated and restructured. The approach also yields measures of the costs
