Evaluation of bacterial glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraether and 2H–18O biomarker proxies along a central European topsoil transect [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2020
Molecular fossils, like bacterial branched glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (brGDGTs), and the stable isotopic composition of biomarkers, such as δ2H of leaf wax-derived n-alkanes (δ2Hn-alkane) or δ18O of hemicellulose-derived sugars (δ18Osugar ...

Tetraether biomarker records from a loess-paleosol sequence in the western Chinese Loess Plateau

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2013
The ubiquitous occurrence of glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (GDGTs) in soils and their ability to record temperature and environmental changes offer the prospect of independently reconstructing continental paleotemperature and paleoenvironment ...

Provenance of tetraether membrane lipids in a large temperate lake (Loch Lomond, UK): implications for glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraether (GDGT)-based palaeothermometry [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2014
The application of glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraether (GDGT)-based palaeoenvironmental proxies, such as the branched vs. isoprenoidal tetratether (BIT) index, TEX86 and the MBT–CBT palaeothermometer, has lately been expanded to lacustrine sediments ...

Branched GDGTs as Proxies in Surface Sediments From the South-Eastern Brazilian Continental Margin

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2019
Branched glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (brGDGTs) are membrane lipids produced by bacteria usually ascribed to soil and peat deposits. The presence of brGDGTs in marine sediments can thus be used to track terrigenous organic matter inputs to the ...

Examining the provenance of branched GDGTs in the Tagus River drainage basin and its outflow into the Atlantic Ocean over the Holocene to determine their usefulness for paleoclimate applications [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2016
The distributions of branched glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (brGDGTs), which are transported from the soils where they are predominantly produced to marine sediments via rivers, have been applied in reconstructing mean annual air temperature (MAT)

Transition of Glacial Regimes Recorded at IODP Site U1524 in the Ross Sea, Antarctica, Over the Last 800 Thousand Years

open access: yesPaleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, Volume 41, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Reconstructing past interactions between the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) and changing environmental conditions in the Ross Sea region can help determine long‐term WAIS stability. Existing sedimentary records reveal changes to oceanography, sea ice and ice sheet extent over the glacial‐interglacial cycles of the last ∼800 kyr.
