Tectonic Framework and Low‐Oblique Rifting Kinematics of the Campos Basin, Southeastern Brazilian Margin

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 44, Issue 6, June 2025.
Abstract Understanding the tectonic framework of extensional margins is fundamental to unraveling kinematics, basement inheritance and magmatism during rifting. Using regional gravity and magnetic surveys, 2D and 3D seismic reflection data and well information in the Campos Basin, we conducted a systematic structural mapping of the syn‐rift building ...

Crustal and upper mantle structure beneath South America from Rayleigh wave analysis

open access: yesGeological Journal, Volume 59, Issue 10, Page 2740-2749, October 2024.
Geographical distribution of S‐wave velocity as a function of depth. A review of the S‐velocity structure beneath South America, for the crust and upper mantle, is performed using a recent methodology based on Rayleigh wave analysis, and a new 3D S‐velocity model (from 0 to 400 km depth) is achieved for this study area.

Clay Minerals and Continental‐Scale Remagnetization: A Case Study of South American Neoproterozoic Carbonates

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 129, Issue 10, October 2024.
Abstract The Neoproterozoic carbonate rocks of the Araras Group (Amazon Craton) and the Sete‐Lagoas and Salitre Formations (São Francisco Craton) share a statistically indistinguishable single‐polarity (reversed) characteristic direction. This direction is associated with paleomagnetic poles that do not align with the expected directions for primary ...

The Middle Niger Basin in Nigeria Has a Rift Origin, as Revealed by the Inversion and Modeling of Gravity and Magnetic Data

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 11, Issue 3, March 2024.
Abstract The NW‐SE oriented Middle Niger Basin, which is a Campano‐Maastrichtian inland basin has been the subject of debate among geoscientists regarding its origin and development. This paper aims to unravel the basin's origin and evolution by using high‐resolution magnetic, gravity, and topographical data. The integration of aeromagnetic and gravity

Sedimentology, geochronology and provenance of the late Permian and Triassic Mitu Group in Peru—The evolution of continental facies along a transform margin

open access: yesBasin Research, Volume 36, Issue 2, March–April 2024.
Spatial and temporal correlation of Late Permian‐Triassic Mitu Group continental and volcanic facies showing two main pulses of volcanism. Abstract In the late Permian and Triassic, the continental Mitu Group formed in extensional basins along the length of the Cordillera Oriental and Altiplano of present‐day Peru.
