open access: yes, 2022
The history of translation and interpretation in Brazil is old, poorly documented and insufficiently known. However, Brazil is one of the countries where Translation Studies occupy a prominent position in graduate studies, and this has contributed to the multiplication of research on the history of translation in different institutions. What follows is

Observation of Laser Cooling on an Electric‐Dipole‐Allowed Transition in Cr3+:LiSAF Crystal

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, an electric dipole allowed transition in Cr3+:LiSAF crystals is investigated for the purpose of optical refrigeration. A cooling efficiency approaching 10% is experimentally determined using a mode‐mismatched dual‐beam thermal lens method with 1 µm excitation in an unoriented 1% Cr3+:LiSAF sample.

New considerations on the separability of very noisy mixed states and implications for NMR quantum computing [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2004
We revise the problem first addressed by Braunstein and co-workers (Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 83} (5) (1999) 1054) concerning the separability of very noisy mixed states represented by general density matrices with the form $\rho_\epsilon = (1-\epsilon)M_d+\epsilon\rho_1$.

Rigid Macroporous Wood Microparticles Impart Universality and Scalability to Lightweight Foam Insulation

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
Rigid, lightweight foams for thermal insulation are produced using a universal and scalable method: results are compared between pilot plant trials, four wood residues, pulp, ocean water, and a biosurfactant. Two guidelines for using this method are suggested: use a distribution of rigid wood microparticle sizes and shapes and match the average ...

A Transition Metal‐Free Approach for the Conversion of Real‐Life Cellulose‐Based Biomass into Formate

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A visible‐light‐mediated method has been developed for the direct conversion of biomass into formate at ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure. This approach achieves the selective generation of hydroxyl radicals, which subsequently transform sugars, cellulose, and hemicellulose into formate.

Tag questions Tag questions

open access: yesIlha do Desterro, 2008
The so-called 'tag' structures of English have received a lot of attention in language teaching programmes, attention that is not hard to justify when one considers the problems and anxiety they can occasion for many foreign learners.
