Genetic, phenotypic, and ecological differentiation indicate a new cryptic and threatened species in the orchid genus Epidendrum from Alcatrazes Island, southeastern Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Systematics and Evolution, EarlyView.
Epidendrum insularis occurs on the remote Alcatrazes Island in the southeastern Brazilian coast. The description of this new cryptic species was only possible by the joint use of molecular markers, reproductive experiments, flower morphometry, functional traits, and community analysis.

Molecular phylogenetic analysis sheds light on the diversity and evolutionary history of the Neotropical and African Triplophyllum (Tectariaceae)

open access: yesJournal of Systematics and Evolution, EarlyView.
We used a molecular approach to resolve the evolutionary lineages of Neotropical Triplophyllum, uncovering that current species circumscriptions are hindered by high morphological homoplasy in indument characters. Our results support the recognition of three new species and provide a necessary neotypification for T.

Evaluating the gravity wave energy potential off the Brazilian coast

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Oceanography
The wave energy potential on the Brazilian coast is estimated using in-situ buoy data and model data. The results present a greater potential on the southern-southeastern coast than on the northeastern coast, but the variance is also larger.

Spatial and temporal evolution of a coastal erg margin: the Middle Jurassic Page Sandstone, southern Utah, USA

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aeolian deflationary events are erosive to static stages where sediment supply is insufficient to support bedform migration and preservation in the rock record. In the vicinity of shallow‐marine environments, inland rises of relative water table and associated generation of deflationary super surfaces may be driven by the onset of ...

Polychaetes (Annelida) from Sepetiba Bay (Brazil): an update on species occurrences

open access: yesOcean and Coastal Research
Members of several polychaete families inhabit rocky shores, including syllids, serpulids, eunicids, nereidids, and sabellids. The primary studies on consolidated substrates conducted in Sepetiba Bay (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) date back to 2004, with ...

Cenozoic tropical carbonate platforms in the Santos Basin, SE Brazilian Margin

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tropical carbonate platforms accompanied the latitudinal shifts of the tropical belt throughout the Cenozoic. Their flat‐topped geometries were influenced by a specific set of processes, including climate and sea‐level changes, carbonate facies, tectonics and continental runoff.
