ASSOCIATIONS BETWEEN ATTRIBUTES OF NITISOLS AND THE CLIMATE OF THE SOUTHERN COAST OF PERNAMBUCO

open access: yesRevista Caatinga, 2018
Nitisols are livelihood sources of agricultural and socio-economic development in several underdeveloped countries worldwide, including Brazil. Brazilian Nitisols are usually associated with basaltic rocks found in the Southern and Southeastern regions ...

Analysis of Climate Variability of Homogeneous Regions of Rainfall Anomalies in Southeast South America (SESA)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
We studied rainfall variability and cyclicity in six Homogeneous Regions of Rainfall Anomalies (HRRA) in Southeast South America (SESA) from 1961 to 2020 to understand the occurrence of droughts and above‐average rainfall. We use a continental analysis scale, focusing on seasonal, interannual, and interdecadal cycles, and their association with modes ...

Taxonomic review of Metaxia (Gastropoda: Triphoridae) from Brazil, with description of a new species

open access: yesZoologia (Curitiba), 2011
The taxonomy of the species of Metaxia Monterosato, 1884 from Brazil is revised. Previously to this study, only Metaxia excelsa Faber & Moolenbeek, 1991 was known to occur in this country, under its older name Metaxia exilis (C.B. Adams, 1850).

Projections of Meteorological Drought and Potential Evapotranspiration Using the RegCM4 Over Northeastern Iran

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
We downscale CanESM2 with the Regional Climate Model version 4 (20 km) and evaluate against 15 stations to derive monthly PET (Hargreaves–Samani) and SPEI for northeastern Iran (1990–2009, 2040–2059, 2080–2099). Results show robust PET increases and a shift toward more negative monthly SPEI—especially April–September—indicating earlier onset and longer

Molecular evidence of two cryptic species of Stramonita (Mollusca, Muricidae) in the southeastern Atlantic coast of Brazil

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology
Snails of the genus Stramonita are commonly found in the rocky intertidal habitat of the western Atlantic Ocean coast. They belong to a monophyletic taxon that occurs along the tropical and warm-temperate Atlantic and eastern Pacific rocky shores.

Latitudinal disparity in the reproductive cycle of sharpnose shark, Rhizoprionodon lalandii (Elasmobranchii: Carcharhinidae), in Atlantic waters off South America

open access: yesZoologia (Curitiba), 2012
Geographical variation in biophysical conditions may strongly influence the life history characteristics of widely distributed species, such as the Brazilian sharpnose shark, Rhizoprionodon lalandii (Müller & Henle, 1839).

WIND DRIVEN WAVES' ENERGETIC POTENTIAL ASSESSMENT ON BRAZILIAN SOUTH-SOUTHEASTERN COAST

open access: yesRevista Mundi Engenharia, Tecnologia e Gestão (ISSN: 2525-4782), 2018
The electrical energy demand is constantly growing, making the study of new energy sources necessary. The worries about climate change make it almost mandatory that these sources are renewable. The ocean is a vast source of energy that is not yet fully exploited. With this in mind, for this paper, wind generated waves were simulated along the Brazilian

Evaluation of anthropic influences in an estuarine system of Southeastern Brazilian Coast by applying enrichment factors [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2013
This study presents an evaluation of metals and As deposition in the Bertioga Channel (Santos Region, Southeastern Brazilian coast) along the last 150 years, which corresponds to the main anthropogenic activity in the area. The studied area is located in the so-called Baixada Santista, where the main Brazilian harbor and one of the most important ...

Taxonomic reappraisal of the mangrove genus Avicennia (Acanthaceae) in India

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
A taxonomic reappraisal of the mangrove genus Avicennia in India was undertaken through extensive field surveys and critical examination of herbarium specimens. Three taxa, Avicennia alba, Avicennia marina subsp. marina, and Avicennia officinalis, are described in detail. A synonymic list was compiled using the World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP)
