L‐aspartate oxidase provides new insights into fumarate reduction in anaerobic darkness in Synechocystis sp. PCC6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Synechocystis strains deficient in succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) secrete more succinate than the WT under dark anaerobic conditions, supporting that SDH then primarily acts as SDH, not as a fumarate reductase. L‐aspartate oxidase (Laspo) from Synechocystis is functional under anaerobic conditions, reducing fumarate to succinate.

RNA‐related functions of BRCA2 in transcription, replication, and genome stability

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in homologous recombination, BRCA2 regulates R‐loop homeostasis, DNA–RNA hybrid resolution, RNA polymerase II dynamics, and transcriptional activation. Disruption of any of these functions can contribute to genome instability, inflammatory signaling, and tumorigenesis. BRCA2 is a central tumor suppressor protein best known for its roles

Artificial molecular machines and motors—Design and control of nanoscale motion

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Molecules are constantly moving because of thermal fluctuations, but random motion alone cannot be exploited to perform directional tasks. Artificial molecular machines use chemical, electrical, or light energy to bias this motion. Molecular shuttles, rotary motors, and supramolecular pumps illustrate how nanoscale movement can be controlled and ...

Modelling the kinetics of aggregate breakage using improved breakage kernel

open access: yes, 2007
An improved breakage kernel was developed to describe the kinetics of aggregate breakage induced by fluid shear. The model includes the effects of both the internal bonding forces of an aggregate and the fluid shear stress exerting on the aggregate.

The ubiquitin system in normal and infected germinal center B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The ubiquitin system plays a central role in germinal center (GC) B cells, influencing differentiation to long‐lived memory B cells. Oncogenic gammaherpesviruses gain access to memory B cells by establishing latency in GC B cells. Mapping ubiquitin mechanisms in normal and infected GC B cells will define specific molecular circuits in B cells germane ...

Mineral liberation by particle bed breakage

open access: yes, 1997
The prediction of mineral liberation in mineral processing operations has become of major importance in the last two decades. This is especially the case for comminution processes.

Experimental Investigations of Single Oil Droplet Breakage in a Turbulent Water Flow

open access: yes, 2021
Multiphase flow and the transient behavior of the dispersed phase is important to numerous industrial applications. Predictive modeling of the dispersed phase would be beneficial in designing, for example, phase separation equipment. A possible framework
