Calculating the Breakdown Point of Sparse Linear Models

Technometrics, 2009
In robust statistics, the concept of breakdown point was introduced to quantify the robustness of an estimator in a linear regression model. Computing the breakdown point is useful in tuning some robust regression estimators (e.g., the least trimmed squares estimator).

Detecting breakdown points in metabolic networks

Computational Biology and Chemistry, 2011
A complex network of biochemical reactions present in an organism generates various biological moieties necessary for its survival. It is seen that biological systems are robust to genetic and environmental changes at all levels of organization. Functions of various organisms are sustained against mutational changes by using alternative pathways. It is

A new GM-estimate with high breakdown point

Acta Geodaetica et Geophysica, 2013
The breakdown point of GM-estimators does not exceed 1/(p+1) where p is dimension of explanatory variables in linear regression. One proposes a new version of the GM-estimation with a high breakdown point (HBGM) to provide high resistance against leverage points and vertical outliers.

On the Breakdown Point of the Hough Transform

2009 Seventh International Conference on Advances in Pattern Recognition, 2009
The degree of robustness of the Hough Transform is examined through its breakdown point by using a noise model called the adversarial noise model. The result thus obtained is compared with existing values in literature and differences are described. An interesting link between the Hough Transform technique and error correction codes is also shown.

Breakdown Phenomena in Point-to-Point Gaps

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1976
Measurements with multiple techniques delineating the complete sequence of events from the primary streamer to the formation of the spark channel for relatively small point-to-point gaps are reported. The pulsed potential with 0.4 µs rise time and 1800 µs decay time was applied to the point-to-point gap, of which length was changed from 6 to 14 cm. The
