Transabdominoplasty breast augmentation [PDF]

open access: yesAesthetic Surgery Journal, 2004
The author recommends transabdominal breast augmentation as a safe, straightforward procedure for patients who have completed childbearing, have minimal breast ptosis, and desire a full abdominoplasty. The use of this procedure helps avoid scars on or near the breast, maximizes the use of the abdominoplasty incision, and does not add significant ...

Bioengineering facets of the tumor microenvironment in 3D tumor models: insights into cellular, biophysical and biochemical interactions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

Downregulation of O‐GlcNAcylation enhances etoposide‐induced p53‐mediated apoptosis in HepG2 human liver cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Etoposide, a topoisomerase II inhibitor, reduces O‐GlcNAcylation in HepG2 liver cancer cells. Further inhibition of O‐GlcNAc transferase by OSMI‐1 enhanced etoposide‐induced apoptosis, lowering the IC50 for viability and increasing the EC50 for cytotoxicity.

Minimizing the Gap between Expectation and Outcome in Breast Augmentation [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 2015
Background Most patients who desire breast augmentation have higher expectations than the outcomes that can be achieved. The purpose of this article is to propose strategies for coping with each patient's expectation, and selecting the most appropriate ...

Breast mass detection in digital mammography based on anchor-free architecture [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Background and Objective: Accurate detection of breast masses in mammography images is critical to diagnose early breast cancer, which can greatly improve the patients survival rate. However, it is still a big challenge due to the heterogeneity of breast masses and the complexity of their surrounding environment. Methods: To address these problems, we ...

Investigating Pulse-Echo Sound Speed Estimation in Breast Ultrasound with Deep Learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Ultrasound is an adjunct tool to mammography that can quickly and safely aid physicians with diagnosing breast abnormalities. Clinical ultrasound often assumes a constant sound speed to form B-mode images for diagnosis. However, the various types of breast tissue, such as glandular, fat, and lesions, differ in sound speed. These differences can degrade

Patient-reported Outcomes of Scar Impact: Comparing of Abdominoplasty, Breast Surgery, and Facial Surgery Patients

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open, 2022
Background:. Scarring negatively impacts patient mental health, causing worsened self-confidence, body image, and social interactions, as well as anxiety and depression. The objective of this study is to evaluate the scarring impact after facial surgery,

Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis: A comparative study of state-of-the-arts deep learning architectures [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Breast cancer is a prevalent form of cancer among women, with over 1.5 million women being diagnosed each year. Unfortunately, the survival rates for breast cancer patients in certain third-world countries, like South Africa, are alarmingly low, with only 40% of diagnosed patients surviving beyond five years.

A comparative analysis of deep learning architectures with data augmentation and multichannel input for locoregional breast cancer radiotherapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Studies on deep learning dose prediction increasingly focus on 3D models with multiple input channels and data augmentation, which increases the training time and thus also the environmental burden and hampers the ease of re‐training. Here we compare 2D and 3D U‐Net models with clinical accepted plans to evaluate the appropriateness of
